Dead as a doornail

Post by Burstgoof »

Just looking for some generic advice....This morning, I went out to my '04 Vibe but when I used the keyless entry, nothing happened. So, I was expecting a battery problem. When I tried to start it up, I got dash instruments (Check Engine, Oil, and Battery lights), and a buzzing sound (which I assume is the starter relay kicking in), but nothing else... no turn over, no sound from the starter or anything else. My first thought is that the battery is completely dead. When I turn to ACC, I get no power windows, no radio, etc. However, after jumping the battery for about 10 minutes, I still have nothing... and that's what has me worried.I'm thinking of trying a new battery in it tonight, but I have a suspicion that I might have bigger problems. Does anyone have more experience with starting issues? After charging the battery for about 10 minutes, shouldn't I have at least heard the starter trying to turn over? Thanks for any help or suggestions.

I'd say battery cannot hold a charge anymore. Time for a new one.

Yep, I think so too. I'm pretty sure that it's the original factory battery... so it would be about that time now. (it's an '04, so late '03 - '06).Thanks for the input.I'll swap out the battery tonight.

If it's a manual, try bump starting it, if it's in a good location. Remove the battery and put it on a charger for a few hours or bring it somewhere to be tested. Is it the original tiny 350 CCA battery. They may replace it for free if you are still under warranty, they upgraded them to 550CCA for free for anyone living in a cold area such as Albany. There is a TSB about it.(technical service bulletin)

I would think it would start if you had bosters hooked up to it from another car. If a new battery does not work check the main under the hood fuse box.

Similar problem at http://forums.genvibe.com/zerothread?id=22559However, the original poster did not leave a reply of the outcome / solution.
