Can't figure out how to remove rear wiper assembly...

Post by Fredrick_NP »

I saw a guide on how to replace the rear wiper blade on this site... (while ago). It said something about to remove the part that holds the blade, you have to lift the arm up, and then turn that part clockwize, or counter clockwize... lol I don't remember. But thats not the point... I did it in both directions, and that thing isnt going anywhere. Does anyone have more clear directions on removing that part? I probably could replace the blade while it is still on the car, but that seems like it would be a pain.

yea, i can help...i needed to remove mine so that i can tint that back window.anyhoo, take the plastic cap off and underneath you will see a nut holding it on. after you get the nut off, simply use a scredriver right underneath it and pry it off. that simple. be careful when you pry it off. use a towel under the scredriver and above, so you don't scratch anything. once you pry it loose, the next time it just pops off easy.gl.

i agree vibe dude...yes i could have worked around it, but wanted to do a good job. so, went ahead and removed it, only took about ten minutes anyway, plus i had a clean surface to work with and nothing in the way. unfortunately, i couldn't remove the stupid nuts where the shocks clipped on. i didn't have the size for that nut. all i know is that my 24mm wrench wouldn't fit, so i had to just cut around it. and i did it at night, started at 10 p.m. i think i did a pretty good job considering it was my first time.I luv that vibe 2 man.

If you just want to remove the blade, then lift it up off the window, and rotate the blade on the arm in pretty much the only way it will go. It iwll hit a stop, but it's just a little bump, rotate it a little more and it will pass the stop, and then it just pulls off. here is a pic of the blade rotated past the stop, with an inset showing the end of the arm after the blade is removed.

if you want to remove the entire wiper arm, then lift up the cap at the base of the arm to expose the 10mm nut that holds the arm to the motor, unscrew the nut, and the arm will slide off the motor shaft.here is a picture of the cap opened, showing the 10mm nut.

Removing the entire rear wiper assembly is a few more steps. First remove the wiper arm as explained above. There is a rubber boot between the glass and the wiper arm that just pulls off. Underneath is a nut that clamps the motor to the glass. I didn't have a metric tool that big, but a 7/8" is a tight fit, so I assume (after math) it is a 23mm nut. I used a big adjustable wrench, it's not on real tight, and it would probably be a good idea to pay attention to how tight it is and how much threads are visible so you can try to repeat that same values when you put it back togetherthe metal tab/handle can slide off when you have removed the nut

On the inside there is a black plastic cover on the wiper asembly. I don't have any detailed steps on how to remove that thing, except that the part that comes off clips inside the other half of the cover, so push or pry accordingly. after the cover is removed, then you can see the inside, as shown below. To remove the entire assembly, first unhook the two wires that connect to the defogger grid on the glass. Then unscrew the two 10mm nuts that hold the asembly to the glass.reinstallation is in the reverse order of removal (a standard line from cheap auto repair books )

I just bought a 12" rear wiper blade at Walmart. Anco AR-12A 300MM.....$8.83. I normally have swapped out the rubber wiper, but I wanted to "upgrade" to a bigger wiper. Getting ready for rainy season here in Florida. Just bought 4 new tires as well. I tried the 14" blade but it was too big. The blade would sweep over the 12 noon position & touch the paint. Looks like a 13" blade might just make it but I didnt see a 13' blade available so I guess 12" is the largest we can go.
