You can try to remove the cowl trim to gain access to the HVAC system's air intake and see if there is anything in there that may be making the noise.I've got a brief how-to of getting access to the HVAC stuff under the trim here: http://forums.genvibe.com/zerothread?id=19575Maybe that will help...

I am having the same problem right about 60,000 miles. I Sell air induction systmes and noticed the problem during a bench marking excersise. There is a resonator that attacheds to the dirty side of the air box. it is rather long. it goes from the air box and coils to the front of the car were the inlet is next to the radiator. There is a rope type mesh over it. that is a resonator that quites the air going into the airbox. The problem is it is cloged.you have two options clean it out. (with the engine off) by hosing it off or. replacing it with a new $40 dirty air inlet form the dealer. but you need to take out the raditor hose battery and a fuse box to get to it.Good luck I hope that helps.I did not notice it untill someone pointed out to me.Nick

I can't remember if I loosened or removed my fuse box but I don't think I did. I did have to remove the battery and tray. IIRC it's only one bolt that holds it to the body and puts the intake below the driver's side headlight. I removed this as well, since all it is is needless restriction. I know it took me less than half an hour, so if you want to delete it, go for it. I can't say performance has improved drastically, but the (removed)-dyno says my throttle response is a little bit better..maybe a hp or two, but I doubt it.
