someone broke into my vibe last night. no broken windows, and the doors were still locked when i got in this afternoon. they emptied the contents of my center console and glove box onto the passenger seat and made off with about $100 worth of tools and my bluetooth headset. oddly enough, it doesn't even look like they tried to take my stereo. i'll be hitting the neighborhood pawn shops on monday to look for my stuff, but my big question is, how did they get in? how hard is it to slimjim the vibe? if the doors were locked, and they didnt' break any glass, i'm not sure how else they might have gotten in. it seems like anyone sophisticated enough to use one of the laptop-based methods the folks in britain used to rip of david beckham's m5's wouldn't have had any trouble at all pulling the stereo, and would likely have known there was some value in the ipod adapter mounted in my glove box (and wouldn't have had any trouble removing both after they had my tools...).
sorry to hear about this well it is a corolla, and i dont think its too hard to break well get into the car with a jimmy. they prolly just locked the door behind them.
You didn't leave the doors unlocked, did you? Maybe they were nice and locked them back when they left. Or, it could have been someone with some experience and common locksmith tools that was able to get in there without causing visible damage... It's very possible, I watched the guy try to unlock my car when I was an idiot and locked something like 3 or 4 sets of keys in the stupid thing. They could have pushed something through the door and hit the lock up by the door handle... You can't hit the unlock buttons because once the doors are closed, they are disabled. I didn't see them actually go up and hit the lock, they tried at first but it was easier for them to use the tool to push down the unlock button on the set of keys laying in the seat. That sucks man... I'm sure it feels like you've been violated!

Maybe they were nice and locked them back when they left. i won't say it's not possible, but i had my old truck broken into about five years ago, and i've been super paranoid about locking the doors in whatever vehicle i'm in ever since. normally i hit thie "lock" button on my remote after i've walked in the door and greeted the dogs (there are two rather large, quite friendly dogs who live in the house). i park right in front of a window and can see my lights flash when the doors lock. i was out in the front yard late last night, and i saw a pair of cop cars bust a car with two guys in it cruising up and down the street at abotu 5mph with their lights off. i can't help but wonder if i shouldn't have walked over and asked to look in their trunk.

If its that high tech, why not go for something a bit more pricey? I'd guess that it was just not locked and they locked it when they left. I'm also paranoid about locking my car and often times when I go out in the morning I find my car in unlocked! So its easier than you might think, to forget to lock it.

If you unlock the vibe with the remote, and dont open the door within 30 seconds, it will automatically relock. Took me a while to figure out what was going on until I timed it a couple of times.

I was getting my bag out of the Camry, went inside the house, came back out and it locked itself.i know my car does the whole "re-lock in 30 seconds" thing if i don't open a door, but it's never locked itself outside of that. i think my owners manual listed some different behaviors regarding automatic locking between vibes with an autos and vibes with manual transmissions.
