Sick of this crap

Post by Mr. Poopypants »

I apologize in advance for ranting here but I need to vent. This has nothing to do with the Vibe, or cars for that matter. I work in an office with a woman, we get along but I am about to scream. I listen to Howard Stern in the morning, every time he says something that “offends” she lets out this little pi*sy sigh. What the hell! If you have a problem with what I listen to, TELL ME or at least do something other than give that “this offends me but I am not going to tell you directly” sigh. I am sick of people not being direct. If you have a problem tell the person about it, get some backbone. If you want to get what you want, you sure as hell are not going to get it by giving subtle hints. I know what her little sigh means but until she tells me, I am not changing the friggin station. I am a very direct person, if I have something to say to you, I am going to tell you. I don’t go chickens**t about it and try to drop hints. Thanks for listening. Have a good day.

I hope you feel better--we all need to vent sometimes. I agree--being direct is best, but not everyone is built that way. I hope that things get better for you and the indirect lady. I personally think that Howard Stern is quite amusing. But I don't get offended easy. I work in a man's business, so I am used to dealing with crotchety old contractors all day and men that don't think I have a clue about the Home Improvement business. But I have learned to deal with it. Life is too short to get mad about the small stuff. ANd to me--that kind of stuff is small. I just reply " I am sorry that I left my (removed) at home today, I'll try to remember it tomorrow. WOuld you like to come back then and I'll help you?". ANd that always makes them speechless.Like I said--some people just aren't built like that.... ANd I agree with Salsa---good thing this forum is a peaceful place....Have a nice day....

hahahayou know whats funny, As I was reading your thread I was listening to Howard Stern. I don;t get Howard Stern here in VA so I have a buddy who sends me mp3/cds of his shows.. anyhow I agree with your frustration, if a person genually has a problem with whats being played they should have some sort of back bone and confront the issue however looking at the other side of the coin some people are probably uncomfortable with being confrontational. I would try just asking her "hey, does this bother you?" initiate and try to identify the problem.

My company has had a few seminars about sexual harassment. If an employee is subjected to remarks, pictures, etc. (in this case the radio) that offends them it is considered sexual harassment. Even if they do not come out directly and say it, it does not prevent them from causing a problem later on (usually at the time they are laid off or fired). Then they bring a sexual harrassment case up and say they were subjected to offensive and discriminating materials at work and it caused a hostile working environment. Being at the management level in my company I have been instructed to be extremely careful as to what both myself and my staff listen to, hang around their desks etc. Whether the person comes out and says anything or not, you are better off not listening to it at all or getting a set of headphones.

Well I was going to tell you to turn it up but after reading the last couple of posts I'll retract that proposal. We just had a manager at one the dealerships around where I work just get fired fro slander against a salesperson. He deserved it though, he was prety rude and he did it in front of the whole staff.

Personally I would say turn it up as well. I hate that I only get to listen to Stern for a 1/2 hour on the way to work. But on the other side my job and the best interest of the company have to come before a radio show.

Not to anyone inparticular--Please remember that sexual harassment in several aspects is a touchy subject. Let's please be cautious....Like others have posted--this is a very big deal in corporate America and people take it very seriously.....Thanks Bunches!!!!!

I work in Human Reousrces. My advise to you is this. Just plain ask her if it offends her. Don't beat around the bush. If it does, give a basic apology and say I didn't mean to make you uncomfortable at work. Leave it at that!!!!! don't make a big deal out of it. Remember she is the one that has the problem with it, unfortunately you may be the cause. That is what brings the blame on you. I hate political correctness, but in situations that deal with this type of topic P.C. will always win. Sorry about that. If you want to listen to Howard Stern wear your headphones. I know it sounds stupid, but its better than tension in the workplace, right? P.S. This does not constitute sexual harassment unless Howard Stern is talking about something of a sexual nature that your co-worker is offended by. If she is just offended then it falls under regular work place harassement.

I am offended by many things in life, but I don't go around suing everyone over it. I personally hate Howard Stern, but if someone else wants to listen to him, they are free to do so. I don't have to listen to him, during the hours he is on the air here, I just change the station. If this woman is truly offended by your having the radio on to Stern, then she should strap on a set and say something. Otherwise, make her snotty little a** sit there and put up with it. If she sues you, then sue her back for being a little bi***. In reality, she would have to complain to a manager before she could file a suit. And then only if the manager refused to do anything about it and the content of the allegedly offensive matierial can be proven offensive to a "reasonable person". Pretty much you are safe until she says something about it or a manager does.
