Drive Axles

Post by jasonvibe »

My ride is 6 months old w/ 6k on it. I did an oil change the other day(post winter). I noticed a fair amount of rust on the drive axles of my AWD. I find this unusual because my last car after 10 years had hardly any rust on the axles(half shafts). Yes, I live where they use salt on the roads. But we use a 40% salt/60% sand mix in CT. But really now, the car is almost new. I wash the car religously. I am aware that over time the seals on the CV boots can be comprimised by rusted axles. Am I alone in this "rusted axle" department ??? Or is this typical for NUMMI ?
