20K in less than 7 months

Post by binary »

Just rolled my 20,000th mile pulling into the driveway today.4 tire rotations, 5 oil changes, and no warranty work yet. I do have to get it in to fix a rattle in my door and in the sunroof shade - it's now offically on my last nerve.Other than that - averaging 34mpg mostly highway miles, and the Goodyear Eagles are holding up much better than I had expected them. Probably another 20k of life left in them if I continue to drive the way I do.Thanks again GV.C for giving me the info and confidence to tweak my ride just enough to make it work the way I want it to - (fog lamps, DRLs, radio, etc...).

I'm fairly good with my tools, so down the road if I toss an alternator or fuel pump, I can do that. If I loose a tranny or a clutch - I'm out big bucks... but less than the cost of the extended warranty in most cases. Besides, I rack up so many miles - so quickly, that I'd be out of coverage pretty fast anyway. The only thing I get extended warranty's on are home printers. I had a cheapo Canon that I spent $25 on an extended warranty from the manufacturer... in the three years I've owned it I've had three printers overnighted to my house (paid return shipping) and came loaded with ink... I've made my money back six or seven times over on that deal.

Hey--I just turned over 20,000 on my way to work this morning! Mine's an '04 and I've had her since October of 2004, so I guess I'd better get to cruisin!

Heh. I've got most of you beat... (Unfortunately?)Just a bit shy of 30k miles, and I've only had it for 14 months.70mi round trip to work every weekday, plus about two months when the commute was ~500-600mi / week.Work sucks.

20K in 7 months? Not too shabby! It's good to hear about your troublefree driving for that time too. Last month I did 3,000 and I believe I'll be getting at least that, probably more this month. Almost 71,000 and the extended warranty is going fast, it'll be history somewhere around the fall. And orbix, yes that's an insane amount of driving!

We've had our 2003 for about 10 months now. Bought it with 34,000 miles, and we're just over 47,000 this week. We bought an extended warranty (good up to 94,000 miles) So far, it's come in handy as we had the belt tensioner replaced a few months back (bill was $337 but it only cost us the $50 deductible) I'd like to see how much the same part would have been at the Toyota dealer. We've been getting around 30 mpg on average. (Got 37 mpg from San Diego to Yuma, AZ. Talk about coasting downhill)

If only I could break out of the break-in period... Nevertheless, riding the bike around town (I drive two places: around town and road trips, just not enough of them to make a difference yet) does save on gas. Mine does not have the extended warranty; who knows how that'll go.

I'm glad to see a few others who rack the miles. Bought the Vibe 4/3/05 with 26 miles on it and didn't start driving it until May 1, when I started my new job. It now, after a mere 11 months, has 24,871 miles as of today. My standing joke about oil change intervals is every 3000 miles or five weeks, whichever comes first! I plan to drive it until the wheels fall off. So far, a good car which averages 30 mpg, and I leadfoot the hell out of it. I can sympathize with the driver's door rattle - next oil change I'll have the dealer look at it.
