Can anyone help me?

Post by CFD911 »

Hey I am looking to put some tweeters in my base sound system of my '05 vibe. I am wondering if I only buy a crossover and set of tweeters id that is all I need ( so basically I tie the wiring from front speekers to the crossover then to the tweeder) or if I should go about it another way?I know a little about stereo systems but not alot, if anyone can help me it would be greatly appreciated!P.S. anyone know where I can buy the housing for them too, to go in the corner of the door?

I did something similiar to this on my Grand Prix. It had the factory tweeters and I was putting aftermarket ones in the pods. What I found was a little disturbing, the factory tweeters didn't have a crossover, they were simply tapped in to the same wires that went to the door speaker.Your way is an improvment over stock if the Vibe is set up the same way.I would imagine you can easily get the pods from the dealer.

yeh see my stereo system doesn't have any tweeters in there right now, so I would be putting in a crossover for sure... but I have been looking at a few on e-bay and some of them had a crossover built in!!!I wonder if that might have been the case in your grand prix?cause from what I do understand about them, they will not work worth sh** if there isn't a crossover!

Seeing as I am in the middle of tearing apart my factory stereo system to add a subs and an amp to go with them I can help you a little better. The tweeters on the Moon and Tunes are powered directly from the amp under the passenger seat. They are not just tapped into the front speakers like the Grand Prix.Your idea will still work though. Tap off the front speakers and throw a crossover in there. You can get those small, inline crossovers from Crutchfield, those would be easier to work with inside the doors.

The 'crossover built in' is basically just a capacitor that acts as a 'bass blocker', cutting off frequencies under a certain point. More than likely the stock tweeters had that (on the non M&T system, also with the NAV tweeters)They'll work okay with just those bass blocker things, but without a variable crossover, you won't be able to 'tune' it to make it sound the way you want.

thanks King slayer and Jahntassa that is really good to know, I figured the built in crossover wouldn't work very well, so I will look for ather ones for a decent price. it is on my project list for the next wee (basically as soon as they come it)Thanks again

I have done exactly what you are describing, and they are ear piercing... I used an exterior crossover and it works very well. Just tap positive to positve...you know the rest.
