OK, this is whats goin on. Im 16 almost 17 and ill be getting a car soon, as soon as I get a job (which is really hard to do around here). And I have been really looking into the vibe. The only thing is that all of my friends think that its a woman/gay car. I just have a couple questions, is this a good car to get for your first car or should I look for something else? Is it possible to get a new 2003 modle of the vibe? And how much would it cost to make it look something like this?http://images.forbes.com/images/2001/11 ... 294.jpgAny help or comment would be greatly appreciated, thanks.
I by no means think the vibe is a gay. Check out pictures of some of the vibes here, you will find a lot of sweet looking vibes. Some have been pretty pimped out. I think you should check with your local used dealers and see if they have any used models. Good luck on your search.
The Picture you have there is of the Vibe GT-R which never actually was produced nor was the body kit. to get one to look exactly like that it would take some money. however i don't believe they are a gay car and my buddies all like my car. you can buy a 2003 model however you have to find one, my best guess would be an autotrader.com, or cars.comgood luck man

first off, i dont think that what car someone gets should be affected by what friends think. basicly all of us on here love the car, it can haul a lot of stuff (i'm a college student) and get good gas milage. if you want to know how we compare on the street check out the racing section to see some members successes and there may b a few failures posted too. the first link is to another pic of that car which i saw a few days ago, and the second is to a site that has exterior parts. my first car was a 99 dodge dakota, winters were horrid and my highest gas mpg was 16, it took my parents 3 yrs to listen and let me sell it, back in march i got my 05 vibe.http://forums.genvibe.com/zerothread?id ... ct...etail
lets see you could own a vibe and all your 16 year old buddies that don't have cars would call it womans/gay. bet they don't say it when they need a ride. the vibe would be a great starter car. and I'm sure you could pick up a nice 2003 for a good price. good luck on the job hunting and before you know it you'll have that vibe.
I'm 17, and my friends all love my car. I love the car. It is a nice first car, because it's easy to drive, handles well, and it has a lot of space to haul just about whatever you want. An 03 wouldn't cost much, I shouldn't think; the maintainance costs and whatnot aren't bad for a base, but a GT might get hefty for a new driver. A base 03's a fine choice, and no one will find it a "gay car". Except those with issues themselves...
When I went with mommy to test drive my Vibe back in the day I absolutely hated it. I probably would have been one of your friends. As soon as I saw it in person and test drove it I fell instantly in love and did not even want to LOOK at the Stratus, Civic, or Escape I was also going to test drive. At school or whatever when people notice how much I am into cars they ask what I drive (probably asuming a mustang or something liek that). When I say Vibe all they say is oh ok...until I take them for a ride and they hear the Borla screaming and the underestimated power the VVT-i puts out on such a light weight car and they completely flip their opinions upside down from "oh thats cool I gues" to "holy #$%* I did not know a Vibe could be this sweet".Yes, Bluecrush I think your picture pretty much proves them wrong
Yeah, those guys probably think the Eclipse or Celica are hot, which when I was in high school (was that really 7 years ago?) THOSE were the girly cars.Screw 'em, I say. Get the Vibe if you want to, spend a little extra money on an intake and exhaust and you'll definitely turn some heads.

(removed)...that reminds me, if you friends are into 46" spinnaz n da moniterz in the back, a Vibe will probably not impress them. Actually I bet they wouldn't be impressed by any tastefully modified car.
If your friends are going to be the ones making the payments, then and only then can they tell you what to drive. Screw what they think, be your own person and go buy what you want. Life is too short to have to worry about trying to do crap to impress others, go take care of #1, which is you. You probably won't find a 2003 or even a 2004 model new. There will be new 2005's sitting around here and there, however. It certainly would make for a good first car, go for it.

How about some advice from an old fart, who has gone thru this 3 times (all girls).?Call your insurance company and talk to your parents agent about the best (reasonably priced) type of car to insure. Pick your car from that list, it will save you big $$$. Unless you and your parents are independently wealthy...in that case go for the new vette or viper.Once you have driven 2 years without a collision or tickets your insurance will come down a bunch, then you will have saved enough to pay cash or a healthy down payment for the car of your preference. My 19 year old daughter drives a 97 Taurus and loves it, it was cheap to buy, had low mileage, is safe in a wreck and rides very nice. She plans on keeping it now. On the other hand my oldest daughter bought a Nissan 280ZX, she paid more for her insurance in 2 years than for the car.16/17 year old male driver = $$$$$$$$$$$$ insurance premiums. Sorry, but you can blame the 16 year old male drivers that came before you. Good luck and drive safe.
