Replacing 06 HU with Aftermarket... what all is needed?

Post by gnnr »

If I make a deal this weekend one of my first projects will be to replace the stock HU. I am really liking this kenwood double din unit, DPX-301, that I found. Sirus compatble, ipod compatible, double din, red lighting. I will get the ipod interface for it initially and probably the sattelite dealie after howard has been on a while and either makes it or doesn't.Anyhoo... the 06 vibe I am looking at has the moon and tunes package and I want to stick with the stock speakers and amp. So, what harness adapter will I need to make that work, if possible. I am comfortable with installing (did front speaker replacement and sub/amp install on my gp retaining it's stock HU). I needed an adapter on my GP's harnes to do line out output and aux in input so I assume I will need some kind of adapter here.http://www.kenwoodusa.com/prod...=2378

sorry, i can't remember all the names of the parts to install aftermarket radios, but i willtry. i would consider going to best buy or a local audio shop and they should have all parts available. the vibe doesn't have a chip encoded key as they might try telling you too. scresche makes a 2 to 1 din adapter. this is the one i use. some people have given it bad reviews. i like mine.you need a 2 din adapter, the wire harness, and mini antenna adapter.i think this is it. good luck with that deal.

plus you also are going to need to add a jumper from 12v igition, to amp remote. this is on the stock harness if you get the moons and tunes. from my experience, most aftermarket harnesses don't have the input from the radio to remote start the moons and tunes amp. i made my own.

I have changed my mind. Instead of a new HU and the hassel of working off the wire harness with the stock speakers or what not I am going to do something similar to what I did on my Gran Prix.I stuck with the stock head unit since it is functional and simply added/replaced speakers. Unless the 7 speaker moon and tune package sucks completely I probalby will just replace the OEM speakers with some decent quality ones, stay with the sub and amp as they are. What is the output by channel and ohm for the monsoon 7 channel system amp? Front/rear speaker size? I know there is a depth issue up front with the roll down of the windows. One thing I want to add in is an aux input. Rather than cracking the case on my HU and going with the mod wiring I saw I think I would simply like to have a AUX unit... is there a PAC unit that works in this harness to give us AUX input? What model number?
