Front Wheel Inner Shroud problem.

Post by PopeyeFAFL »

I'm not sure how you name that part, I'm taking about the inner right hand side wheel housing, the part that mate forward of the fender and the plastic wheel molding. So, this winter, I guess I grab a chunk of ice or heavy snow, and that shroud was dented, pretty much in the center of the wheel, about the same height as the wheel axle.In consequence, the projected width of this part is now narrower, and the problem now, is that the outboard edge of this shroud is now wavy and no longer hide behind the fender (not by much), but there is now an opening for rain & snow. (I'm not too concerned about that, since I get my Vibe rust proofing every year). My question is: Do you think, that is possible to dent it back into shape (I will not try it now, it is too cold to work on it, but as soon as spring show up, I will try). If not, should I be concerned about that, does someone know how much this part cost (it is worth changing it ?).Thanks in advance.

You may be able to push it back into shape, since the material this piece is made from is very weak! I feel that this particular piece, for lack of a better term to describe it, is flimsy, cheap junk! I swear it has to be made from the same material as a milk jug! lol You're not the first who has had issues with this thing, so take comfort in that. Mine has been broken for months, however I still have not done anything to replace it. I've used duct tape instead since my car simply isn't worth sinking any money into. I probably won't do anything about it until I can afford to trade it in as I'm sure visible duct tape won't help the already horrid resale value. In my thread where I asked about it, Nick replied:Quote, originally posted by nsimkins »I paid $60 for the liner (part # 88969697) and about $10 for additional push-in pins (part # 88970767) through partzoneonline.com.The dealer will want far more for this piece than it is worth.

Take your Vibe to a heated garage first to warm up the plastic say underground mall parking. I've snapped cold plastic in the past, not on the Vibe but my old Chev Celeb. You cold as you say wait for spring but the amount of salt on the roads will creep into all the nooks and crannies. Good luckWinter sucks

Just to close the loop on this, I had a chance of seeing my Vibe on a garage lift, by unscrewing the shroud near the front bumber, using a long screwdriver, I was able to gently deformed it back to shape. Thanks for your comments.
