adding a sub / changing the amp

I want to keep the factory head unit, but would like to add a subwoofer. Can I use the 200 watt factory amp in any manner? If not, how difficult is it to swap out the amp? I've done plenty of car stereos in the past, I was just wondering what I was up against.

I have what you are wanting to do. I have the factory head unit, with a Sub and Amp in the trunk. You need to keep the one under the seat so that the radio can work, because that is where the radio is plugged into. All you need is to add a line in converter to the back of the stock radio, and then run the new stuff like you would any other amp hook up. I also disable factory tweets and put my own in there, that is really easy as well. But if you want to get a new head unit, go ahead and take it out. It will do just fine, I am about to install me a new head unit.

ok, so I don't seem too dumb, what do you mean by a 'line-in convertor'? is there a hook up to the head unit, that allows a feed to the amp in your trunk ? does it have an RCA out from the head unit ? or do i just tap into the right and left speaker outputs, because if that would be the case, I was going to tap into the amp under the seat, so as to not have to get my head up under the dash. as for the tweeters, did you pull out the factory ones, and replace them, or did you disable them, and add new ones somewhere else ? if you replaced them, where did you purchase new ones. I was just going to add 2 more, up near my ears, so I could actually hear them. thanks for your help.

don't do anything to the amp under the seat. Just pop the face off of the deck and go from there. The line in Converter is for the RCA's. To get sound to the new amp you are going to hook up. I just disabled them and put the new ones where those were. I bought them from a local place...but you can find tweets for cheap online. Ecspecially in the NYC.
