Excellent. again demonstrating why your MOTM title is well deserved.Hopefully all the VOTM contenders will take advantage of it and really showcase their cars, and that will make it easier for voting members to participate in the contest. Some people already have threads that kinda meet the criteria for a Garage thread. If we see one should we let a mod know so it can be parked in the garage, or would you prefer to leave it up to the member/owner to decide when to have a garage thread? Will anyone be able to post to any garage thread, or (if it's even possible with the forum software) will it be that the threads are locked to all but the originator?

Stupid question. Is this for current vibe owners only, or are owners of all makes/models welcome to take advantage?

This is a cool idea. So are you braking it down by year and model or how are your thinking of doing it.

Perhaps, thereafter, we should allow the first week of the garage's opening to be open only to the other previous VOTM winners to create their "parking spots" in the garage as well. This way the admins and global mods will have a chance to work with just a few people before the whole thing opens up so they can "set up shop" and demonstrate for the rest of us what a parking spot in the garage should look like. It will also give those winners a special honor for the work and dedication that they put into making their rides, and therefore all Vibe's as a whole, something that stands out as special.Thoughts anyone???

Is the genvibe garage a place for people to have a thread about their cars where people can comment, or is going to be for cardomain like threads where people can create and modify a thing deicated to their car, and other people can view but only the originator can post to it? One would be a discussion thread dedicated to a specific car, the other would be a showcase or reference for each car. Which is the garage intended to be?It would be nice to have it so that people could compliment another person's car or ask questions, but that could also let the car reference threads get filled up with all kinds of OT ramblings, or things that mght be better to discuss in the other subforums.

We're aiming to have the GVC Garage and post instructions available before the next VOTM voting takes place.Quote, originally posted by joatmon »Is the genvibe garage a place for people to have a thread about their cars where people can comment, or is going to be for cardomain like threads where people can create and modify a thing deicated to their car, and other people can view but only the originator can post to it? In general, the thread author will create their post and edit/customize/update the first post in the thread with their info, pics, links, etc. -- anyone will be free to reply to the thread with questions and whatnot with no issues.Once we get the ball rolling, we'll probably have a set of GVC Garage moderators selected to help maintain that particular forum for members with specific questions and to remove/edit posts as needed. This isn't going to be anything really different than a post on the Forum, other than the ease of the creator to edit/upload their pictures to the site. Unfortunately we're still limited to the 1-attachment per post issue, but I don't see that as a big problem as most people can create a Photobucket account, for example, and upload their pics there.I'll probably create the first post for my Vibe just as a set standard, then open up the forum for everyone else to post based on posted example(s) and general guidelines we'd like followed. Nothing major.

ok by meIf someone wants to use the multiple "one upload per post" , then I suggest putting some disclaimer in the top of the first post, something like "I am building this thread so please do not reply as long as this message is here" and then they can go at it hopefully without being interrupted, then when done go back and remove the disclaimer from the first post to let others know it's done. I have used this in a few how-to's, wished I had in some others, people generally respect it.

joat--Just for future reference, if you want to create a how-to thread or something like that in the scenario you described and someone else posts in the middle of your work, you could always ask a mod to edit it so that your work in the thread isn't interrupted after you've completed what you were working on. That's what we're here for, so please use us to your advantage. This is true for any other member also. Don't be afraid to ask for help, we don't bite. Well, most of us don't anyway. I only bite in a certain forum on this site, and only after being sufficiently poked at. But I'm getting better about that I think. It's looking like the new "GVG" forum is going to become moderator-intensive to keep it neat and on track once it gets going. The team of mods that is chosen for this duty will have the ability to assist members with creating and tidying up their parking space in the garage, so all members should be encouraged to take advantage of this assistance when needed. Having been a moderator of one sort or another for almost 3 years here myself, I can say that it is very helpful to a mod when a member makes a specific request or calls attention to an issue that should be addressed. Mods aren't perfect either so they can't always catch everything, but I think it's safe to say that we all like to help every member enjoy the site as much as possible. I'm not speaking from any sort of position of authority on any of this, just putting some info out there for everyone. Nick will make the rules of the new GVG and set the guidelines that are to be followed. I know that I certainly hope that this will become a new area of the site that many will enjoy.
