New vibe owner with Dealer issues!

Post by Hayman »

I signed a deal for a new vibe and got delievery last week on it. The car was to have a rear upper spoiler installed at the dealer. I went to pick up the car and no upper spoiler to be seen just some kind of spoiler under the rear hatch window. So of course I ask why the heck did you do that to my nice new car for! The salesman said at first he thought he had the right one ordered in but it wasn't! Then he proceeds to tell me the service department got the spoiler that came in and just put it on anyway. I told him to take the dumb thing off or else I won't take the car. He said sorry it has to stay on due to the mounting of it etc. They had to drill holes in the rear hatch door to bolt it on. So if they took it off I'd have holes in the door. AS for a different car sorry on that one too he claimed. I would loose my $600 ring to win GM rebate which is VIN specific and the closest car they claimed was far away and would have an added shipping fee. Then while I was pondering it all over there he told me he learned that the top spoiler is not even available for my car after it seems??? Just the GT model gets the top spoiler and it has to factory ordered of course. Funny thing it was available before I bought the car! After more B.S. I said just give me my car and the stupid spoiler and I guess I'll just have to live with it. That night I checked the GM vehicle locater and sure enough there were a few cars available locally with my options!! The next day I checked another dealer's parts department and sure enough the unavailble top spoiler could be purchased no problem. They even had stock locally for the darn thing! So they made a little boo boo on my car, lied about the whole thing and made me pay for their mistakes!!!! Boy the must have had a good laugh over this one. So now of course I'm really pissed not so much at the unwanted spoiler or even the cost its the lying to my face about it all. If the jokers would have been honest up front it wouldn't have been so bad. They could said sorry about it here is your car don't worry about the cost of the wrong spoiler. Or even if they would have said we made a mistake will you split the cost of it 50/50 or something. I know people will say its my own fault for taking the car in the first place. I guess I should have demanded my deposit back and left. But then I'd have lost my GM rebate. Once I found out they pulled a fast one on me I tried to phone them up but the salelsman was not in so I left a message for him. I then phoned GM customer service told them my story and they actually got back to me quickly. They said the dealer admitted to the mistake and would take my car back and return my money. I said well I've been driving it for a few days and it has well over a 100KMs on it now too. Also I would loose my GM rebate then too unless maybe another program is coming out etc. The guy said to phone up the dealer and talk with them.So I phoned up the dealer and talked with the sales manager and he said they would take it back and give me back all my money.....at least on the phone. I find it hard to believe as this car would be a used car now as it was resgistered and all etc. I don't know if they are bluffing me or what, I didn't ask for money back on the wrong spoiler. As the dealer and even GM canada keep saying the dealer is not making alot of money on the car. Well big deal so if you're not making alot of money you can screw around with your customers???? I didn't force them to sell me the car !! I could have got it a little cheaper at two other dealers but instead I bought local.I'm just tired of fooling around with these characters already and don't feel like going in there and listening to them whine and cry about how thier not making any money. They don't give a ****** about their reputation I guess. Cause we all know when you get good service you tell people who ask. When you get screwed you tell EVERYONE who will listen to you! GM canada phoned me up again and asked what I decided to do. So I told them I'll just live with it and keep my car. As we do like the Vibe just not the spoiler or the way they pawned it off on us. So the guy said my case is now going to be closed etc. and to enjoy my car!Sorry for the long story. My friends say I should go back to the dealer and get them to pay for the wrong spoiler or get them to at least put right one put on!!!So does anyone have a vibe with the upper and mid mount spoiler on???My wife doesn't think it will look good that way and I'm not sure as I've never seen any around town with both on.

obviously the dealer is full of crap. If i were you (and it can't hurt) I would go to the dealer and tell him to order you the top spoiler like you wanted, on them. mount it yourself (i did, nothing to it) and pick a different dealer after that for all your warranty issues.there are a few members here with both spoilers. it looks nice

Well the Vibe has an option to come with both along with a body kit. Personally I'm PRO midgate spoiler which you have and not to keen on the upper spoiler. It mounts to the racks and I may remove mine some day. Now it does not look odd with both... I have seen them with both and they looked alright. If I was you I would also keep the Vibe, keep both spoilers as the mid one can't just be removed without leaving holes. At least they told you the truth in that one. And its no lie about the lack of profit they make.Or you could let them take it back, go and buy yourself one of those other local ones, buy the spoiler yourself and get it installed. Its not a GT only spoiler as I could have had it installed on my 04 base but told them no. $3000 for the body kit and spoilers from GM was more then I wanted to spend.Oh and if you keep the Vibe, take it somewhere else for service.

Me, I'd be pissed. Even if I decided to keep the car, I would go back to the dealer, demand to see the owner, o general manager, or whatever he is called, explain how the salesman lied to you, and tell him you are thinking about returning the car and filing a formal complaint, unless they can offer some compensation for the fraud. You may not get something, you may get some small thing. Did yours come with the cargo area mat, or the bumper protector strip? THose things are a lot cheaper for the dealer, woul cost you more than they are woth to buy them from the dealer, and you would probably want them sooner or later.. Just to get something, as a token of them apologizing for screwing you over. At least that's what I'd do, you may get nothing out of it, but you might get something.oh yeah, Wwelcome to genvibe! Post some pics of the new car. Congratulations, even after being jerked around in the purchase process, you still get a great car out of it.

I probably wouldn't last too long as a car dealer, but in my business, and also in my private life, I make an attempt to keep my reputation above reproach. Life is too short - a few hundred bucks to rectify an error is not the end of the world.

Yes, the salesman lied, and so far, you're still letting him get away with it.I'd make the dealer eat the car, take my money, and go buy another Vibe somewhere else.Dealerships continue to employ grossly dishonest salespeople and get away with it precisely because customers LET them get away with it.I've probably posted this before, but I know a gal whose week-old Honduh Prelude was t-boned while a dealership lot jockey was taking it to be washed. They said they'd fix it, 'just like new'. She said, "No, I want a brand new car! You crashed it, it's all your fault."Bottom line: She crawled across the owners' desk to get in his face and make her point rather, uh, emphatically, shall we say. She GOT her new car!

I'm getting the rear windows tinted tomorrow. Not the dealer its a different place down the street that does this sort of thing. This was part of the deal when I bought the car. They better cover the cost like they said they would!!!So I'll take a picture after it's done and post it so you guys can see how the spoiler looks. The spoiler is starting to "grow" on on us now that we've had it a while. I like the idea of the top one so its easy to spot in the parking lot etc. How are these cars on the ice with the Good year eagle GT's??? I'm thinking we may need a set of winter ice tires for it if we get a typical winter with crappy roads. I even questioned the salesman about a set of rims and tires for it but he suggest it go to a tire shop. Only thing he seemed interested in selling me is undercoating. If these guys were as concerned about getting my car right as they were about selling me under coating , paint protection and fabric protection they may have not screwed things upin the first place. I passed on all of it. But the "closer" dude really pushed for the damn under coating, I was ready to get up and leave!! . They wanted $400 to do it so I said its a little car how much can you actually cover??? So then a 1/2 ton pickup truck must be like $800 to get done ??? Funny thing as time went on the under coating got cheaper and cheaper. From what I've heard from friends who have worked at dealers in the past the undercoating is like 99.9% profit for the dealer.

yea those stupid dealer options are big profit makers along with warranties. I used to work retail at a computer store...wow we had some corrupt (removed) salesman, and working as a tech i had to deal with the customers when the warranty didnt cover what they were told and i was as pissed as the customers were at the salesman... i also hate them.... I bought my vibe at hertz car rental sales were the prices were WELL below the cost ANY where else and no haggling or pressure for anything it was a great experience. as for yours im sorry that does suck, but i would atleast make them eat getting you the top spoiler, id love to have both spoilers but they will have to wait for now. welcome to the site!

The dealers ger a report card from you . You will get it in the mail. My dealer went as far asto say fill this out at exelent or else the dealership will fail the review. My dealer kissed my but for the most part. He sent me cookie's, gave me a jar of touch up paint. I left fealing like a king. But, The Funeral Home that I work for Buys a new fleet of Limo, Coach, and Leed car every few years. My point is, They treat you as they want. I should say also, I went to another dealer first and left the car sitting in the lot because the salesmant told me this is the best I can do, take it or leave it. I left. See, we do not buy funeral home cars from him.

I know of a dealership here that has great customer service and it's built on treating the customer right and not trying to lie to them. They win awards for their customer service, actually. IMHO that's the right way to run a dealership.

first of all, welcome to the site. we try to hgelp as much as we know how. sorry to hear about your poor dealer experience. i had a great salesman and great dealer. everything was done right and they tried to make me comfortable.like others have said, it was at your discreion to buy there after they promised your money back. this is the way for them to change their practice. if you don't complaint then they will do as they please.i would've suggested taking your business elsewhere. it's your hard earned money. you didn't have to give it to them. it's always easier taking your car in the dwealer that sold it for warranty repairs, and now you have deal with them everytime you go there.good luck with your new car.

I always took it for service including warranty work at a Pontiac dealer 3 miles from where I live. No one ever gave me any problem nor did I ever feel I was treated any different than if had bought the car there. I get the impression that the service dept. does their thing and the sales people do their thing and rarely do the twain meet. After I looked at a Vibe there I did send the saleman a note explaining that I had bought a Vibe elsewhere because that dealer had one in stock without a moonroof (all this local dealer had were Vibes with moonroofs a $1,000 waste of money for me). He never got back to me - would have been a nice gesture if he would have thanked me for visiting them and hoped they could be of help in the future. Of course like many car salesmen he might have only lasted a month.

Sorry to hear about the dealer jerking you around. If I were in your position, I would have the dealer install the proper spoiler (at their cost). I would also push to have the cost of the inproper spoiler refunded. I'm glad to hear that the mid spoiler is starting to grow on you. The only alternatives for getting a car with no mid spoiler are to get a new vehicle, or have the dealer install a new liftgate (very expensive). Here is a photo of the back end of my car, with both spoilers installed.

Hello Hayman-welcome to the board. I won't comment on the story except to note that GM customer service came through for me rather quickly too for a problem I was having with the dealer when I purchased my baby. Sounds like a nice trend
