JVC KD-DV5100 DVD Headunit Installed

Post by frostyGT »

I signed up for Sirius radio the other day. I am very happy with the service, but the FM modulator was kind of annoying. Static when turning on and off, and sometimes radio stations would show up on my chosen frequency. I have the 6-disc, and I considered doing the aux input hardwire, then I came across this toy.I found this JVC KD-DV5100 at Fry's last night for only $150! This cheap unit comes with many cool features. It has a rear aux RCA input, a front aux input, and you can get another input using the CD changer control port. Really, it works well for me because I can use the rear for my satellite and the front for an MP3 player. It also has a video out and optical audio out, since this is a DVD player.Perhaps the coolest feature is the Giga MP3. You can place about 1100 mp3 songs on a single DVD. Definitely helps me out since I'll be losing my 6-cd changer.So.....For only $150, you get 1100 mp3s on a DVD, 3 aux inputs and a DVD player to hook-up a few monitors to. And the unit's finish blends in nicely with the dash. Unfortunately, the display colors don't match, but they still look good.BTW....Instructions tell you that if screens won't be placed in driver's view, E-brake control can be disabled by attaching to chassis ground. Nice of them to tell you that right in their instructions. I guess they can do that since there is no attached monitor....Any thoughts?

Looks really good... I like it a lot. Seems like you will have plenty of MP3s to listen to for quite some time.

Thanks....After driving for awhile with this, I still really like it. The display is very easy to see, even in sunlight. Buttons match the dash color, and the display is white with some blue accents. I had always wanted a full red display, but I find this color combo works nicely for me. Sound quality is good, much better than the stock 6-CD unit.I am running Infinity 6.5s in the doors and an Inifinity Basslink X. The HU is connected to the stock M&T amp and provides plenty of noise for me.I am going to move the HU down below the AC controls, and put a 7" TFT in the radio spot. I am also going to install monitors on the headrests. Nice thing about this unit is that the music folders will be displayed on the monitor when hooked up.Forgot to mention that this deck is also Sirius ready and comes with a remote.I'll post pics as I update the system. Getting 2 of the monitors tomorrow morning.Damon
