Let me tell you, I have seen firt-hand how much better the TRD fits over the Injen. If I could find a good deal I would replace my Injen with a TRD quick, especially if you are going S/C.

Do you guys think the TRD is a good buy if i can get it for about $150?biggest issue with the TRD CAI on the VGT (and it is carb legal at least up here and they go by the CA emissions) is that most always it will throw a CEL on the VGT. doesn't seem to have a problem with 1ZZ but the 2ZZ that CEL will light up like a sore thumb. i found the only remedy aside from taking it out, was to get the unichip.... at least that was my rationalization for it originally....
I got the Ingen CAI from P-Tuning and never had a CEL problem with it. It just dropped right into place on install and the filter wasn't really that bad to get to...just takes a little work. I wouldn't go for the short-ram. A) it looks kinda cheesy and B) i want COLD air, not hot air from the engine bay...after all...that's the whole reason for the CAI right? But hey, that's just me...to each their own. That's the beauty of modding a car.
yeah i dont quite get the point of a short air intake. i had one on my grand am, all it did was make it sound a lil better. other than that i think it took power away cuz its sucking the hot air in, unlike the factory setup that had a cover over it and it was sucking in somewhat cooler air. anyhoo, i know i was asking about the TRD and Injen intakes, but whats up w/ the AEM for a GT? it seems like nobody has it.
Quote, originally posted by northvibe »i think its because you have more air going into the intake, so the computer needs to relearn the mix.ya something like that. and no, mine would never go away until i installed the unichip. i even tested it out later and turned off the unichip. the CEL came back on. haven't heard of any problems with the base engines though, just for some odd reason, the GT and mostly with the TRD CAI. doesn't make any sense to me either!
Most CAI systems on vehicles do not throw codes... I have had two on my cars and never a code with them. The computers relearn themselves or you can force a relearn by disconnecting the battery. Since it seems GT's are susceptible to codes using a CAI, I would be interested in knowing exactly what the code was or the verbiage of the actual code shown, defined in the service manual.
