Hey guys, I need a quick price for a new back bumper skin for an '05 vibe. Somehow a snowbank attacked the back of the car and left a pretty significant split in the bumper (will post a pic in the morning). It also destroyed the back passenger side wheel liner. Any idea on a price to repair?TIATom
LOL, it was my wife that didn't wanna hear that... No really. She was driving home from work today, and a truck crossed the line infront of her. She had so swerve to aviod a head on collision, but in doing so because of the freezing rain the car ended up in a 180 and went (removed) first into an icy snow bank. After looking at it again, I think a good body shop could prolly repair the bumper instead of a total replacement. I am just glad she is ok and the car is just a car (keep repeating over and over... )
I have an extra in Albany NY that I'd sell for $100, and install for an additional $50. Sorry - no shipping. It has one minor - and i do mean minor - scratch on it. Since I did it to my wife's car, i had to spend the $500 to fix it !Let me know if you are interested. Oh- it is from a 2-tone, so it is gray.
If it is not too deep or long it can be repaired, primed and painted (if yours is painted to match the car). Body shops have done it for years...The drawback is it still must be removed and the time involved to repair it usually is close to the cost of new and some shops will not waste time repairing. I would contact the member above that has one and pay the $500 or so to get it fixed and painted. See if he will ship it, used replacements or repaired replacements for lots of vehicles are on ebay all the time...
The car in question is an '05 Vibe, it does not have the textured back bumper. It is all abyss black. There is no damage to anything else, just a split. It is located right behind the passenger side back tire. I think it should be repairable, there was no damage to anything else ie. the bumper supports or anything. I had it up on my dads hoist lastnight and the undercarriage looks like new.
I don't know how far the drive is to Schdy, but if you plan to paint, my bumper would be an easy fix. There is a scratch that is about 2" long next to the driver's side backup light. Some filler, paint, and you'd be good to go. $100 USA$ !
My guess is the BS and insurance both thought it was faster to remove and replace and in most cases it is. My bumpers really are not that textured... Here is the GM serv manual procedure when I drilled down under bumper covers, under body repairs. The covers are flexible plastic and polypropylene. There is also Styrofoam between the cover and impact bar. This is not a structural piece and if gouged only and not cracked I would reuse. Now if the impact bar is bent, I would replace it. I called the dealership today and a few local bodyshops. The dealer wanted 300 canadian for a primed rear bumper skin. It was actually a lot cheaper than I thought it would be. I imagine I will end up going to the dealer and getting the new rear skin rather than trying to save a few pennies and getting a body shop to repair it. I was looking at the crack more this morning and it is pretty jaged, not really that clean of a break. As well there was a pretty bad gash i missed a few inches behind it.Tom
