2003 Vibe GT with 118000 miles. Time for first brake job!

Post by gapvibegt »

The Pontiac dealer wants to rape me on the price, I was thinking of buying some aftermarket rotors and pads and doing it myself. Does anyone have any recommendations on certain brands and where to get them? Thanks

that's a lot of miles. can't think off the top of my head where toget rotors, but there are a few drilled, and slotted options out there for the vibe.

If you are just looking at getting some non-dealer rotors and pads, and are not interested in getting high performance drilled and slotted racing rotors, then any auto parts store should sell them. Some will have different quality options, at least for the pads.

yeah, i agree with joatman. the pads, you have to be carefull with. there is a lot out there and a lot of it poor quality. i used to think they were all basically the same until i i had to stop on a dime. the car didn't have ABS, so i spected a skid. no skid. the car took forever to stop. i've ever since stopped using the cheap stuff. this was a few cars ago though.

I got burned on a cheap set to pads on my last car. I followed the manufactures' recommended break-in methods on matching new rotors... Still a very noticable lack of stopping power. I took them off, junked em, and then got a good set of ceramic pads all around and it was like dropping an anchor out my trunk!
