Bowl game Bulls@$#

Post by redlava »

Not sure if anybody watched the Outback Bowl on TV on the 2nd between Iowa and Florida, I was there for the game. I have never blamed the officials for a loss, but I am now!! I have never seen so many blown calls in one game in my entire life (7). If I was a conspiracy nut I would think that the refs were bought off. It all started in the first quarter when one of our WR went up for a catch and was pushed out by the other team when he would have landed in bounds and it was called incomplete. That ended a possible scoring drive for us and we had to punt. The second was a unnecessary roughness call that should have been called for us when an opposing D player laid out one of our WR a full 3 seconds after an incomplete pass. That call would have put us in field goal range at the very least, instead we had to punt. The third was a Florida TD which should have been canceled because their WR ran out of bounds on his own freewill then came back in to catch the pass. The fourth was a face-masking call on us while we were on offense, and our player was actually the one being pulled by the face-mask, our guy had a legal stiff-arm to his upper chest. That put us at 3rd and 20 and ended a possible scoring drive. The fifth bad call was called "unnecessary signals" called on our Defense which is an actual legit penalty, but it is so rarely called that everybody I talked to about it had no idea what it was. Apparently our defense was making sounds to try and draw the other team offsides. All defenses do that almost the entire game, and that is the first time I have ever heard it called. The sixth was a TD for us that was called incomplete even though he had one foot inbounds when he caught it. The play was reviewed but none of the camera angles showed his foot placement well enough for teh call to be overturned. We ended up having to kick a field goal which we missed. The seventh and most important one occurred with 1:24 left in the game. We were down by a touchdown and we needed to recover an onside kick to possibly take the game to overtime if we scored a touchdown. We recovered it on a textbook kick, but we were called offsides and had to re-kick, which we did not recover. The picture of this one is at the bottom. All in all we had our chances to win the ballgame and to stop them, but it was near impossible even for a team like Texas or USC to win a game with calls like this made against you. Iowa got beat, Unfortunately it wasn't Florida that did it.

Yep...saw that onside kick fiasco. You guys got screwed.I was just as upset with the officiating in the Rose Bowl. I've never seen such ineptitude in a premier sporting event. Blown calls went both ways; don't let NBC let you think for one moment that the Vince Young lateral with a knee down was why UT won. UT lost an interception call and clock time on an OOB catch that never stopped the clock. The only good thing I have to say was the review officials were quick.
