How's the tint on your rear window?

Post by Vibetime »

Hello all.I just got my windows tinted this last Friday 30% on fronts...80% in back. These guys came highly recommended but...The installer was having problems with the rear hatch window. I know quite a few of you have had tint applied so let me ask you...How does your rear window tint look around the circular lift gate mounts? Can you see untinted daylight around yours? I know I can. If you have a good looking rear window that's been tinted please attach a photo to this thread. I need to have some back up to support having them redo this job. Thanks!

I had mine done by a reputable shop and there are 2 perfect circular holes around the glass mounts. They're barely larger than the mounts themselves. Light does shine through but it's noticeable only when I'm up close.I think you're the first person who I've known to get darker tint in the front than the back?Quote, originally posted by Vibetime »I just got my windows tinted this last Friday 30% on fronts...80% in back.

Did the guy take the hatch glass struts off when tinting, or did he tint around them? The guy who tinted mine removed the struts (while I held the glass up, man that thing's heavy!) and cut exactly around the holes... That way, you can't really tell. If you can tell, I sure as hell haven't ever noticed. I'll get pics tomorrow. It will give me an incentive to clean that horrid rear window that I've neglected for months.

Don't know if you can tell anything from this pic, but I can't see any place that the tint didn't cover. Hope it helps.

When I got my rear window tinted, they cut out the tint so it was just slightly bigger than the mount for rear hatch support arm. You can't even tell unless you are up close to it... I was pretty happy with the tint job.

Hiya...Got mine tinted by a local woman (Lisa's Window Tint - Danville, IL) who does this for a living. I talked to her about the back hatch and whether she takes off the struts to tint. She doesn't because of the risk of damage and such. I was a little concerned but then once it was done, she showed me the back and how she managed around the cut-outs. She used a black marker of some sort.. marked over the untinted glass... and honestly, from 2 or 3 feet away, I couldn't even tell the difference. Up close you can see that it was a marker but unless you're looking closely, you'll never be able to tell. I'm not sure if this was a special marker or just a sharpie or some permanent black marker but, if you're not happy with yours, you could try this to see if it hides the impercfections of the cut-outs.Dave

After two years mine is starting to get small wrinkles in the lift gate window. Guess it is time to bring it back to the lifetime warranty tinking guy.

The guy who did mine also removed the struts and I held up the glass for him to apply the piece. Basicly he laid the sheet on and then cut out the spots for the struts to mount. Looks good still to this day and I had this done back in the very beginning of the 04 year.

No problems with mine after a couple of years. But my Vibe has been garaged for the last year and a half so I don't have to run the defrogger that much.
