Clutch Problems

Driving home form work tonight I lost my clutch. I was in 3rd, I hit the gas to accelerate and the RPM's shot up but then came back down to normal (without taking my foot off the gas). I figured it was slipping which is not good. I went to shift to 4th and I couldn't. I pressed the clutch, it came out of third and would not go into any other gear. I let go of the clutch and the pedal came back slower than normal. I pressed it again and still couldn't get it in gear. I coasted to the side of the road and tried again. The pedal did not feel right at all. Easier to push in and it came back slow. At 12075 miles I don't think it's the clutch itself, probably the cable or a leak in the lines for the slave cylinder (if it uses one). I called Pontiac roadside assistance. They had a truck there in 15 mins (surprised me) and towed it to the dealer. Now I have to wait until Monday to see what's wrong.

Dealer called and said that they have to replace the clutch assembly. I asked him why as it only has 12,000 miles on it and he said 'it happens'. Since it did wear pre-maturely it will be covered under warranty. He is not sure how long it will take to get the parts as they are on back order.

I should get the courtesy car tomorrow. The service manager was out and he sets it up. He'll be in tomorrow.

hmmm... were you having any problems or other issues that gave you any clue that you may be having clutch problems in the future? The clutch in my GT is acting up, making a click and chirping noise (you can even feel it). I took it to the dealer, I now have new clutch parts on order, hopefully be here soon. Seeing how the parts are back order, I wonder if there's an issue with the 6-speed's clutch pedal...Glad to see you were able to safely get to the side of the road and get roadside quickly.

I didn't notice anything wrong until that night. It seemed OK the night before and the ride to work in the morning.

Day 3 at the dealer. He has most of the parts but is having a hard time trying to get the rest. I asked him if he tried Toyota. He said that was his next step. If he can't get them through GM channels he can go to Toyota for the parts. He said he had do do it once before on another Vibe with a different problem.

I just talked to the dealer. He won't have an answer on the parts until Friday. Also, Pontiac does not give loaner cars for warranty work. It is stated in the warranty manual. I am calling Pontiac customer service, I can deal with a few days without a car but this is going to be at least a week because the parts are on back order.

After talking to Pontiac customer service today they said I could rent my own car and then they could probably submit the bills for reimbursement once everything was taken car of. I have rides to and from work for the rest of the week so I'll wait to see what they say on Friday.

Probably submit? Kinda nice to know for sure before you go out and fork over your own cash. I wonder what part your dealeship is having trouble getting. Hopefully he can use the Toyota channel to get your Vibe back up to snuff. For myself, my dealership just called today to let me know the parts they ordered for my clutch are already in (!) and even went ahead and scheduled me in for next week. I am very impressed with my dealer so far...Anywho, good luck!

I didn't like the sound of the probably. I think the dealer is actually waiting to hear from Toyota on the rest of the parts. What was wrong with your clutch? What are they replacing?

PBFlash, from other posts you have written it sounds like you work at a dealer. I would hate to think they would be giving you trouble for a rental. I have bought 8 new GM cars at one time or another and if any of them had to stay at the dealer overnight for warrenty repairs i got a loaner.

I work for an overseas distributor of GM, Chrysler, and Ford. Our warranty admin guy here is seeing what he can do for me with his contacts at GM. From what it sounds like is that I can get a rental if I pay for it up front and they will (probably) reimburse me. If not I can wait until tomorrow and if the dealer does not have positive news on the parts, Pontiac customer service will have them arrange a rental for me. I am not too worried as I have a way to get back and forth to work. I just want my VIbe back.

If the vehicle was at the dealer I bought it from it would probably be easier. Unfortunately I broke down 70 miles from where I bought it and roadside assistance would not tow it that far. If it was a major problem for me I would fight harder.

Mine is still in the shop. They are hoping to have it done tomorrow. They have had the parts since Friday so I don't understand what is taking so long. Maybe they are replacing more than I thought. I guess I'll fiind out when I see the repair order or when I start screaming at them if it is not done by tomorrow.

It's gonna be in the shop until at least Thursday now. They had it all back together and the outer seal on the drive shaft was leaking. Now they have to wait for the new seal.

I finally got my Vibe back....two weeks later. The RO says "Clutch and disc blew apart. Necessary to replace clutch and disc and l/frt axle seal".Hope this doesn't happen to anyone else. The longest delay was getting the axle seal. They had the everything installed within a week and had to wait another week to get the seal.

Did they state why it failed to begin with? I just bought my GT last week and am hoping I don't have to start to worry about blown clutches.

Ford reimbursed me when my stang had BO parts that took a week to get , they paid all the rental fees no questions asked....I am not sure what the GM procedure is!

on the 2000 focus they gave me a courteousy car everytime....I think that was because it was a lease job. ......... That was the crappiest ford I had ever drove! Total Lemon Lime combo car!
