http://www.mercurynews.com/mld...1.htm NUMMI sets annual vehicle production recordFremont's NUMMI plant has made 400,000 vehicles in one year for the first time in its 21-year history.Second-shift workers at New United Motor Manufacturing Inc. made that vehicle, a red 2006 Toyota Corolla, on Monday. The line kept moving, but NUMMI President and Chief Executive Yuki Azuma, local United Auto Workers Vice President Sergio Santos and two workers posed for a ceremonial photo.Azuma noted that NUMMI broke its record at a time when ``some auto plants have been reducing production and announcing layoffs and closures.'' He credited the efficiency of NUMMI's workers for the feat. The plant, a Toyota-General Motors joint venture that opened in 1984, assembled 395,672 cars and trucks in 2003.The production record comes despite recent frigid weather in the Midwest and South that suspended first-shift production at parts manufacturers last Wednesday, and threatened to do the same this week. Sub-zero temperatures broke railroad engines and buckled tracks and stranded parts for the Corolla, Toyota Tacoma and Pontiac Vibe ``in the middle of nowhere,'' said spokeswoman Rhonda Rigenhagen. The plant has scheduled production for Saturday to catch up, she said.

Don't forget about the consumer, all of us. We buy them cause they are a solid design with high quality at an affordable price. And to boot good gas milage. Now if GM/Ford/Chrysler can get back to designing cars that people want then there wouldn't be any plant closing and union/non-union and mgmt layoffs. If you build it they will come, keep building them NUMMI!

Oh no, I didn't mean it like that. Yep I'm UAW. I just meant that its not just the UAW alone responsible for that achievement. There are many of us worker bees involved in the process as well. But I know what you meant. You meant to say "congrats!just goes to show what toyota can do with the help of the UAW and hard working employees."

I wonder if GM will also be getting rid of the GT?

We make the Corolla, Tacoma and Vibe at NUMMI and TMMC makes the Corolla, Matrix and RX 330. Although, we do make parts for TMMC at NUMMI and TMMC makes parts for us at NUMMI.
