Using The Factory Amp Without Head Unit

Post by platinum_ »

hey guys, i replaced my factory HU a while back and have now decided to get rid of the hu completely. i ordered a touchscreen and a micro atx computer system ... my problem is that last time i used rca outputs i would get that horrible popping everyone complains about (fixed this using the scoche adapter). now that my only output will be the low level from the computer, how can i prevent the popping? (i have my home computer wired to a car amp and no popping ... just something about the factory amp that does this)please any info :D

Probably just ditch the factory amp. Although since the computer won't be doing as much as the headunit, there might not be as much electrical interference that causes the popping, so you might be okay.Try it and see, then determine if you need to change. That way you aren't spending money on something you might not need!

thanks for the reply, i honestly dont want to change the amp or upgrade the speakers, i dont know why so many people go overboard with it .. i turn the power to 1/2 way and its often too loud to stand or talk to anyone in the car. but will try the comp and pray it works p.s i think it will as the computer sends a constant signal whereas the headunit would stop and then start up again each time we changed tracks. however the comp might still make it pop on boot and shutdown. i did however get an automated shutdown controller for the computer so i should be able to program it to kill the amp before and after the computer shuts down or boots up

Maybe some sort of delay - that doesn't turn the amp on until after the soundcard has initialized.I'm just tossing that one out there. When you get it installed - post picts!

If you have a shutdown controller, you should be able to use that to turn on the amp. That's how my carpc is setup.. I just have it on a delay so the amp comes on while the computer is pulling out of hibernate.
