DIY roof rack repair?

Hey all - I searched, but didn't find any discussion on this... I have a couple of deep scratches that go through the silver coating of the drivers side roof rack rail on my 03 Vibe.Didn't know if there was a way to repair the metal - what is it, aluminum? I don't think it's a painted surface.

What a lot of folks are doing is removing the side bars and having them powder coated. The coating shop can clean them up so after they are done you won't be able to find those scratches.I'm having mine done in black chrome in the spring, when I have some money and time to fool around with it....
