I just priced out a base Vibe FWD,, auto., sport pack and preferred pack with rear bumper protector and it came to $20,245.00 MSRP...Invoice was $18,938.00. The GM red tag price was $19,189.00 (now remember, no more $500.00 rebate but I believe the $500.00 conquest is still available to those with a non GM vehicle). So taking off another $500 for the Conquest....we now can get the Vibe for $18,689.00. Now, pricing out the XR base Matrix, auto with the same options comes out to $19,485.00 and Invoice was $17,813.00. Where I live they sell the Matrix for $100.00 over Invoice (Internet price and I went to the dealer and verified the $100.00 over price), That means the Matrix similarly euipted can be purchased for $17,913.00. Final tally...the Matrix is $776.00 less than the Vibe and it is $1,276.00 less if you are not eligible for the Conquest rebate. Even if they sold the Vibe at INVOICE ($18,983.00) the Matrix is still $1070.00 LESS thatn the VIBE????? Why???/is there such a difference in the pricing between the two similar vehicles and usually the Matrix commands a better trade-in value??? I, for the life of me cannot figure out the GM pricing strategy!!!!!
I was in the same position a few months back. My experiences were as follows:-The toyota dealerships I shopped were both willing to take between 500-1000 dollars off sticker.-The pontiac dealerships in my preliminary shops were willing to give me both the GM employee discount as well as $1000 conquest. After doing my research I went back to all dealerships stating I was going to be buying in the next few days and needed an exact price so I can compare. The toyota dealerships both gave me a price of $1000.00 off sticker (note: both toyota dealerships had cars available exactly to my liking). The pontiac dealers both needed a little more info to give me a price, and neither has cars exactly to my liking. The both mentioned they could order me the car I want, and would be able to give me the current incentives. The one I ended up purchasing from said that they could give me a better deal if I would take something on their lot, or a lot that they were able to trade with, and printed me out a list of vehicles available for trade.I found a car almost to my liking except for color I really wanted moonstone, and got platinum.-M&T-5 sp Base-Power Package-16" alloyssticker: 20,300I paid 15,800.I think the vibe on paper is more expensive, however, the pontiac dealerships have more of a discounting margin. btw.... the vibe looks better too IMHO. heh-Chris
i don't know much about this, but what i do know is that the matrix seems to have 3 trim levels. the vibe ony 2. the matrix : base, Xr, Xrs.maybe the base vibe is better equiped than the base trix.
i find the vibe more "loaded" base wise than the trix, like fog lights, roof rack, rims (between the ones i looked at). but what the heck i thought the vibe was supposed to be cheap! whats up with this 20k crap? and then selling it for 15k. sounds like they are trying to rip people off.when i bought my vibe, the trix on the lot didnt have fogs, racks, rims. the vibe imo is better looking and came with more options for 2 g less!! heck yeah!
Its been this way since the beginning of time for the Vibe and Matrix. We asked the same things at the plant and were told that the Vibe comes stock with more than the Matrix (roof rack, fogs, etc.). That was the main reason why. Not sure if its still true now, but back then, a Matrix with like features as a Vibe priced out slightly more than a Vibe. That may have changed by now.Oh well, I still get an employee discount on both!!!

I figure the employee discount was about $1,300, the Conquest $1,000, and perhaps a $500 rebate. That adds to $2,800. Did you have a trade-in? Did you have GM Card earnings? The matrix has the base, base with TRD package the XR, XR AWD and the XRS. The base matrix and the base matrix with the TRD package do not come with power windows not a option. The Base vibe with the power package is compatible to the matrix XR package, except the XR includes tire monitor, abs, and alloy wheels standard.

I suspect that the pricing has more to do with what the market will bear than the "cost". It probably is difficult to determine what the actual "cost" of a particular vehicle is at any point in time, particularly where a plant makes more than one model. The cost of making one more vehicle (marginal cost) is a lot less than the average cost that includes fixed overhead. That's what's behind all of these deals - so long as they can sell for more than marginal cost the company will lose less money keeping the plants running than if they cut back to the quantity demanded at the regular price. If you've ever studied economics, remember that "perfect competiton" is defined as a situation where all competitors sell at marginal cost. Of course they can never cover their fixed costs so in the end they all go bankrupt.

take a look some packages have discounts built in. What is an $1100 pack is discounted on the sticker, often $300. Simply a gimmick. Look carefully at the sticker. Dealer by me only has a few matrix's in at a time. So he rarely deals. But the Pontiac guy usually has 5+. If I read correctly, the Matrix is made in Canada and the Vibe Cali ??? Plus GM automatically bumps prices due to people like me who walk in with $3500 on the GM card rebate with no restrictions. Identically equipped the Matrix is 5-7% cheaper...from what the mags tell me.

I'm still having a laugh at the poster that was hung up at the dealership I worked at before. "Vibe wins best crash test rating over vehicles like Toyota Matrix"(removed)? Its the same dang car! I pointed that out to the sales manager and she gave me a "your a retard" look and said the Vibe was not exactly like the Matrix. LOL... I just left it alone. But I guess there is more then one reason GM charges more... Its BETTER!

When I bought - GM Card earnings was the last thing that we did. Dealer doesn't care- they get their money. In fact, I thopught it was the cc company that covered the GM earnings amount.

I think the TRD package is a Canada-only option. Anyway, the reason our family went with the Vibe over the Matrix was 1: we could find one here with side airbags and ABS and 2: they gave us something like 6,000 on our trade-in, where Toyota was giving (politely) a lot less.
Yes, different cards, different limits. I suspect I am older than most here. I have had my card since they came out with them. They asked if I wanted to change card types. Like to a "free air miles/ vacation card" . Heck NO! My only limit is max of $500/ year earnings for 7 years = $3500. My Pops has one with no limit or is it $7000. Anyway it makes buying a car less of a headache...if they have what you want.
