iPod in a Vibe 2006

Post by meall »

Hi,I'm a 1 week new owner of a brand new Vibe 2006. I really like it so far! I bought the basic model, manual, dark gray, with the electric group (doors, windows, etc) and it have the standard single CD player head unit.I'm also an owner of an iPod, which I'd like to use in my Vibe. I used to play the iPod with a cassette adaptor, that do no longer fits the need. I'm very incline to forget about the FM transmitter out there, so direct wiring is a must have.I read arround this forum for a few days looking at different post about this subjet. Obvously, I did not see any report from a user of a Vibe 2006. Does those hacks describe here for a 2005 are also working?I read the sticky message at the top, and I must admit I'm not so incline to open the head unit put switches and other add-on in the car that may either breack the waranty or even cause fire or electrical problem in the car. Does the ipod2car or AUX-POD add one I read about here are compatible with the 2006 HU? In the respective site there is no mention of this 2006 model. This solution is less cheap, but give me more control (changing tracks for example). A few questions about those tool:- in between the 2, is there one better than the other?- Also, since those gadget can control basic funcion of the iPod, I suppose you need to choose the playlist from the iPod, right?- Keeping the CD player running is also one of my point. Does they keep the usage of the CD player? - The CD/AUX button need a CD to be anabled, do you need a CD in to select the iPod as a source?- Does those gadgets are easy to install?- Where/how can you install the iPod connector to keep the iPod handy, but without adding cable cuttler in the car?- Where in Canada I can get those the cheapest possible? Thanks for ansering. I just hope that those questions/answers will help other users as well.

Hey meall - I can answer some of your questions, but not all:- in between the 2, is there one better than the other?Don't know.- Also, since those gadget can control basic funcion of the iPod, I suppose you need to choose the playlist from the iPod, right?Again, not sure. Hopefully someone who has one will post.- Keeping the CD player running is also one of my point. Does they keep the usage of the CD player? Yes, you can still use the CD player. The CD/AUX button toggles between the internal CD and iPod. (Alternatively, you can set up the IPOD2CAR, at least, to be selected using the BAND button as XM1)- The CD/AUX button need a CD to be anabled, do you need a CD in to select the iPod as a source? If no CD, the CD/AUX will just select the AUX input, and not toggle. Essentially, the adapter pretends to be a CD changer to the head unit. If you have a CD in, pressing the CD/AUX will toggle between the two. If no CD in, pressing it just selects the iPod (like it just selects CD now)- Does those gadgets are easy to install? They are pretty easy to install. The only non "plug-and-play" aspect is having to splicea power wire (and sometimes ground) to a wire on the larger radio connector.- Where/how can you install the iPod connector to keep the iPod handy, but without adding cable cuttler in the car?I have an AUX2CAR, and ran my cable down behind the center dash and into the compartment under the shifter. Coils up there when not in use, and can just open it and pull out the cable when using it. There is a rectangular hole in the plastic inside the top of the compartment (in 2005+) and I just routed the cable from inside the dash through this into the compartment. No making holes or anything, and while you have to remove the trim under the shift to do this, that's pretty easy and doesn't require deconstructing the whole dash.- Where in Canada I can get those the cheapest possible? No idea!
