noisy engine at idle

Post by discojunkie76 »

Just wondering if anyone else thought the base vibe vvt-i engine sounded like a sewing machine? especially at idle. I find 93 oct fuel dulls the "ticking" noise a little, anyone else notice this or did i get a lemon?

the vibe's engine is noisy for a few reasons.1. solid lifters2. fuel injector tick3. idles very leanI've noticed it myself but expected it due to it's econo-breed power plant. There's not much meat on the motor itself - so there isn't much to block or absorb the normal sounds. The tranny is also noisy - but that's also because its just there - nothing around it to absorb the sound.

In the summer time with temps not going below 50, a 5w40 or 5w50 oil will also quiet things some.
