Engine Cover Dress-Up

Post by cknight725 »

The stock engine cover has been wayyyy to boring for for me since I took delivery in April -- this past weekend I saw a similar treatment on a 2005 GTO and decided I wanted to do my engine cover the same for the Vibe. Its very simple -- Some Dupli-Color Hi-Temp Gloss Black as the base coat, some Argent Silver and Charcoal for the raised letters. The whole thing was then glossed. I used some leftover Eastwood wheel restoration paint (made for metal) for the raised letters so I sanded the tops of the letters to ensure it adhered properly. I gave the rest of the cover a good bath in dish soap and dried it. I didn't do any other sanding or touch up mainly because the surface had a texture to begin.Summary ShotLettering DetailAnd god help me I tried for 15mins to "index" the oil cap so that it was positioned exactly right but couldn't get it!

Just the top .. the underside has some tissue paper attached that would've been a pain to work around, plus you can't see it at all ...
