Windshield Tent (factory)

I have 2 '05 Vibes. One has the factory tint across the top of the windshield and one does not. What determines which ones get the tint and which ones don't?

Now, this is quite interesting! Did you buy both cars new or used? Generally, from what I have seen personally and from hanging out here, the Vibe does not leave the factory with a windshield that has tint at the top, only that black dot matrix junk in the center around the mirror.That's not to say it can't happen. Windshields for these cars with the tint do obviously exist, as you have one - and other members who have had to get theirs replaced ended up getting the tinted windshields as well. If you bought the car used, the previous owner probably had to replace the windshield. Or, if you did buy it new, I can think of two possible scenarios: There could have been damage while the car was on its way from the factory to the dealer, so the dealer had to replace it... Or, there could have been a supplier issue so the factory had to acquire windshields from a different source and ended up with shipments of windshields that had tint.Consider yourself lucky that you have one with the tint. That was one big gripe about my '03 until I had a strip of tint put up there.

The one with the tint was a GM program car built in Oct '04 and I purchased it used from the local Pontiac dealer Aug '05. The one without the tint was purchased new Sept '05 from the same dealer and was built June '05.

The tint strip is in the Buticite that is in the windshield, it is in between 2 pieces of glass. All the buticite that is made at our site has the tint strip, and we make a lot of it. There is a good chance that most of the winshield's Buticite on this forum came form the Buticite facility at the Dupont plant that I work at. So they all should have the strip, not very dark, but it should have one.

Maybe the windshield was replaced due to damage or defect during delivery or at the dealer.I was always given the option of having the tint or no tint on my replacements for my last car.

had to have been replaced. the vibe does not have the tint strip on it. I just got mine replaced and it has the tint now. damn truckers throw rocks everywhere, and it was sand pitted really bad too. just got the thing 6 months ago.
