Hi all.I decided to change hu only. no changing amp. or speakers...I am just about to order new hu, JVC Arsenal KD-AR560, and it give 4 volt Preamp Voltage. Do you guys think that I still need to install line driver??? or could you share you guys' experience.I have 05 base w/M&T +single cd.mainly I just want to use my Ipod nano and hopefully new hu will improve some sound quality...Thanks.^_^

It's not so much a line driver as it is a line-leveler. If you're hooking up to the M&T, the 4v pre-outs don't really apply to you.The issue is the M&T wants speaker-level inputs, but the outputs of most aftermarket radios are too high, so you use something like the scoche piece and you can 'turn down' the output to match what the M&T amp wants.

pre-amp volts is used when you use your own subwoofer. the 05 M/T has it's own sub in the back and runs off the M/Ts amp. so you don't need to worry about that. i think the M/T amp splits the sub output from the speaker inputs. you really won't hear a difference since you are still running 200watts from the stock amp. including the sub.

JahntassaI have a couple of questions for you if you dont mind....^_^I am very layman when it comes to car audio. So, please correct me if i am wrong. your post imply that factory hu make speaker lever output??? Which mean speaker level output goes from hu to factory amp. and factory amp. make another speaker level outout???If 4 volt is too high and it have to be turn donw by line driver, what volt are we looking for? I don't want to use line driver if possible. I believe that original source is better than one went through line driver... I found that alpine and kenwood make hu making 2V. Alpine CDA-9847 and Kenwood EZ-500.one more thing, if i just use 4V, what would be happen????mcgusto82I just hoped that changing hu could make some SQ improvement. My concern is mainly to use ipod...Thanks in advance.have a nice day.^_^
