I'm a new Vibe owner, and i've been reading over these forums for about a week now. And i think i've seen at least 3 different engine #'s. And have no clue which one i have.I've got a base 05' Vibe. Also, it'd possibly be helpful to have a sticky stating which Vibe's have which engine, for new people like me.Thanks.
as far as i know, there are only two engines in any vibe out there, the 1ZZ found in the base, and the 2ZZ found in the GT. over the years the 2ZZ has been tuned down quite a bit, but as far as i know, the 1ZZ is the same as it's always been (except that the '05's have drive-by-wire).what other engine number have you seen? if you're referring to horsepower ratings, the 2ZZ engine seems to get tuned down a little more each year in regards to peak horsepower (from 180 in the '03's to 170 in the '05's).
The base and AWD have the same 1ZZ engine. The horsepower is slightly lower( - 7 hp? ) for the AWD because of a more restrictive exhaust system. The 1ZZ was rated at 130 hp on '03 and '04 in the base, and 123 in the AWD. Not sure about 05/06 ratings. The GT has the 2ZZ engine. I think the 2006 rating is now 164 horsepower, down from 180 in '03 and 173 in '04
My 2003 Vibe Base Auto 2-tone Salsa "SalsaWagon" was built in May 2002. I acquired it in Feb 2004/Traded it in on a 2016 Honda HR-V in Feb 2018.

As was said, there are only 2 engines out there.Look at the side of the engine block as well. Mine had a sticker that said something like 1ZZ-FE somewhere on it.
