Hi again, I am stil waiting for my GT and I am really curious as to how much fun the Gts are to drive. When I test drove a Vibe only a base model was available, I found it to be more powerful than my pitiful 95 Mercury Tracer wagon (a whole whopping 88 hp Wheeeeeeeeee). Anyway any comments on the GTs performance would be very nice. Thanks! Jwnmt
This car is an absolute blast to drive. It handles like a sports car should, and for such a tall car doesn't have a lot of body roll or lean in corners. At wide open throttle the motor screams and has lots of power from 6k all the way to redline. The six speed could be a little smoother but i like it, just be carefull on the 1-2 shift. You have to shift alot during normal around town driving, which isn't all that bad if you like driving a stick. And for a car with a performance suspension it rides really well. The best thing about this car is that you can haul (removed), carry 4 other people with you and make smoothies at the same time.

I do drive it harder than any other vehicle I have owned, so that could account why I seem to find that there is more body roll than I am used to, but stabilizers should counteract that problem. It is probably the second fastest car I have owned (although a 460 V8 isn't exactly economical on fuel) and the only one I have actually raced (see times in racing forum, new ones coming tomorrow). It is also the only car I have even thought about adding aftermarket parts to.In short, it is a scream to drive hard and for everyday it is still practical. A few mods should make it all the better.

I love my GT! This is without a doubt one of the most enjoyable cars I've driven. I'm with Wrench79, the six could be a little smoother but it certainly doesn't keep the car down. The exhaust note at high revs is great! Can't wait for the aftermarket to take off.
I have to agree, it is a blast. Wait for the engine to get worn in a little, I waited until it had about 750 or so miles, then I slowly started to drive it faster. The first time I hit the 6K RPM mark it shocked the **** out of me. When I test drove it, I was taking it easy cause it only had 30 or so miles on it. I had no idea that when the "cam" kicks in at 6K it was going to kick so much. It flat out hauls until the rev limiter kicks in somewhere after 8K or so. My only complaint is that it is a dog with the A/C on, I figured it would be a bit slower but it is more than I was hoping for. I have two small kids so the A/C is on when they are in the car, and it is more difficult to get the car going with the A/C on. I opened up the stock air box by cutting out a large section of the bottom part below the air cleaner, then I moved the battery forward about an inch to give the air box more clearance. I also removed the "S" shaped air tube that connects to the air box and took out the white plug that is in front of the aircleaner. I love the sound at full throttle and it does seem to help the rev's a little. I too can't wait for the aftermarket to catch up.Rob

We love our GT. It is everything I liked about the Turbo Sunbird hatch back I had years ago. It is pleasnt to drive up to 6k and hauls after that. Gear selection during performance driving takes some getting used to, for example if your going to pass a car on a 2 lane highway and want to get around the guy in a hurry you would have to drop 2 maybe 3 gears to get into the power band. I get great milage (27-28mpg mixed driving) even though I do use all of the accellerator ocasionaly. This helps justify the higher octane. With the better mileage I'm getting, more performance than my S-10 Extreme had, functional space to haul things I need to, and able to take 4 people with me, I can't complain.
