Buick 4 yr 50,000 mile warranty

Post by jake75 »

TV ad for 2006 Buicks mentioned a 4 year 50,000 mile warranty. That's new. Perhaps Buick is trying to add some value. I wish car compnaies would have warranty terms like Procare Auto Repair where is is xx,xxx miles or xx months whichever comes LAST! At about 7,000 miles a year I would have a 5 year warranty.

My factory warranty was toast well before I had the thing for two years. I found out about Buick a couple weeks ago, glad to see them do that. Warranty sells, whether you need to use it or not.

That's a shame that they dropped it. It sounded like a good program too, since the warranty would transfer to a new owner, ideal if you're picking the car up used. Only a few of these manufacturers that offer long warranties do that.

I learned about it first on a TV commercial. Say, Oldsmobile got a 5/60 warranty before GM killed them off... Maybe they're trying to boost sales and if that doesn't work, they almost have the warranty that Olds got before they died so they can run with that. I wouldn't want to see that though, actually. Buicks aren't all that exciting, but if I could afford it, I probably would actually enjoy something like a Lacrosse. (go ahead, laugh!)

Yeah Chrysler dropped their 7/70 and reasons I read about where it was NOT part of the customers buying decision... What? I strongly feel it would be.My PT has it and it is a lease, I thought great the car will be under some kind of warranty the entire time I have the lease. Chrysler did not keep it for long before stopping it.

Only a few of these manufacturers that offer long warranties do that.Plus, if an engine component or tranny fails before 7 yr/70,000 miles it is usually due to a manufacturing defect so they very often end up making some sort of good will settlement anyway. Very few fail so I bet the cost of adding the 7/70 powertrain warranty to every car is less than $100. Now the bumper-to-bumper would involve a lot more claims.

Maybe sales would have been even worse without the 4yr/50,000 warranty. Wonder how many picked Matrix over Vibe because of the 5 yr/60,000 mile Toyota power train warranty [I understand that the Vibe has than in Canada - maybe it's part of the national health insurance plan .]

They are getting better though and the Benz influence certianly helps.

The free roadside assistance is sweet, I've had to use it a few times. lol! Yeah, I know, AAA is pretty darn cheap but free stuff from the manufacturer is always going to be cheaper. Of course you do get roadside assistance on the Prius - thank god, it looks like those poor guys with those things need all the help they can get! Luckily they don't have to pay to get the thing towed when it breaks down. lol

3/36 for everything... The Cobalt and Aveo are the only two small GM cars that I know of that have a 5/60 powertrain warranty...

Cobalt is nice, but mpg is dissapointing. The Aveo is small but still gets less mpg than the Vibe, we all own the best fuel millege GM vehicle and it is really a Toyota. GM needs to get their act together.
