brake problems after 15K miles?

Post by pingber »

Have any of you had to have the front pads replaced after 15K miles? My vibe is making grinding sounds when stopping, but it doesn;t happen all of the time, sometimes gone for a day or two. Seems to be worse in wet weather ...any ideas????

Mine always did that. The exposed disc rotors will develop a little surface rust after the car sits for a bit, especially in wet conditions. The car will sound a bit raspy when braking until the rust is worn off.

If it does it when you first drive on a wet day, it's perfectly normal. A fine coating of rust forms very quickly on the discs but wears off after you drive a short distance and brake a few times. Don't worry.Welcome to Genvibe. Same question, same answer eh Millster?

If it does it ONLY after sitting in an overnight rain...NORMAL. Noise should go away after one or 2 stops. Otherwise have the brakes checked.

On a humid or misty day, rust can show up much sooner... a couple of hard stops cleans the rotors up and you'll have a quiet drive after.

Living in the hills of western PA, I have to change my brakes after 15,000 miles, so for me, new pads after 15k is kinda normal.

I hope I am not doing the brakes every 15k. I did them on my last car every 25. Because the wife drives 90% city and the sliders would stick on the driver's side caliper. The passenger's side were only half worn. Also the "better" pads from Autozone made more dust than anything else I had ever used. Advance's silver pads have less dust but less grip. This is based on my last car.
