Bluetooth install done, kinda

Post by Toolman »

I just got the Bluetooth installed in the Vibe. I ran into a few things like no factory harness like the GTO has and the fact that there are no sites to detail the install. Anyway besides having the right terminals to connect to the radio I made do with some that didnt fit just right, I also decided to come off the power from the radio instead of a separate circuit. I got done after 3 hours and only 6 curse words, easy in my book. I will detail the install on my How-to page over the weekend, but for now I am excited to try it out a few times while I am driving(even though it is nothing new as I have had it in the GTO for 6 months now). Attached is what the radio displays durring a call.

That's a sweet mod! I wonder how tough it'd be to get this working with the in-dash changer, instead of the single-disc player....

Would love to find a way to wire in my bluetooth kit with my G6...supposedly having onstar actually makes it easier......but we'll wait a while before we start ripping the car open...
YES!I still visit GenVibe periodically. I have not forgotten about my "original" family over here!

So what is this Bluetooth stuff I see every now and then? I can gather it's a hands free device for hte phone and it ties into your car speakers? Sounds like it might be interesting. How much was it?

I paid 60 bucks for the one that I just put in the wifes car, your phone has to have it already though. Once paired you just get in the car and your phone will mute the radio when an incoming call comes in and the conversation will be heard over the radio. Very handy in states where hands-free is the law, and vary cool to show your friends!

looking at your how to. i see that you used the speaker input. wh not the AUX connectors. you could've had volume control from the radio itself. everything else seems good. i did a mod like this. it wasn't bluetooth though.if you place a phone mount in sight. when the phone rings. you switch into AUX (band). this would eliminate the need for a seperate volume control. the oe you have at the left side of the steering wheel.

Volume control is thruogh radio, as well as the remote. It even has a memory so the phone level is the same no matter what the radio was. For example lets say that you have the radio turned way down, when the phone rings and you answer it, it will go to the volume that you had the last phone call reguardless of the set radio volume.

You need the remote to answer the phone, by pressing the answer button(looks like a phone on the remote). I believe this input is for the phone because when the phone rings it says phone on the radio.

Now get your (removed) down here and i'll be able to get you GPS off the Onstar unit straight to your laptop.

Yeah, bluetooth is pretty much a defacto standard at this point. Any bluetooth kit will work with any bluetooth phone.
