Hello-I recently totaled my '87 BMW 325is... so now that I've collected my Insurance settlement, kissed the bavarian burner bye, and decided I'd rather not spend $1500 a year repairing and maintaining my car, I'm shopping for a new car... my first new car...I'm currenly in Jersey visiting my parents for Christmas but I probably will be purchasing a new car right after I get back to Socal, and hopefully before the end of the year (maybe even on the 31st). Either a Vibe, Matrix, RSX, Jetta, or Liberty (Need to narrow list down quickly... only ones I've driven are the Vibe, Matrix, and Jetta) The Vibe/Matrix has an edge because I should be able to throw my bike or board, on the roof, my friends in side, and my junk inside. :-PI've noticed through buy power that the most of the cars in LA/OC are monotone paint appearance... the only montone cars I've seen are in the broshure... so does anyone have pics of non photoshopped montone cars... specifically the silver? I've actually only seen one vibe in LA ever... pleanty of Matrix's though... I'd say there are at least six Toyota Dealers within 10 miles of my house that claim to have over 500 cars on there lots...I drove the Vibe here in Jersey today... drove the Matrix XR and XRS auto in LA before I came out... I like the Vibe's Roof Rack, the $2000 rebate, the $1000 on my GM car, and the fact its $200 below invoice on Cars Direct.com.GregThanks and Merry Christmas from Snowy Jersey

I would rule out the Liberty personally unless you are mindset on a true SUV. The Liberty has tons of recalls/problems from the getgo and the gas mileage on both engine options is horrible. The Liberty was one of the vehicles I was looking at before the Vibe. The RSX is nice, less room and versatility than the Vibe/Matrix (in comparison) but faster. The Jetta is decent, amid quality control problems that may occur.quote:so does anyone have pics of non photoshopped montone cars... specifically the silver? Here is a link to a Monotone Satellite (silver) Vibe.. click hereThere are other Vibe pics here: http://nicksimkins.com/vibe/Also check out the registry by clicking here and browsing the listings for other pics.
Thanks! It looks nice... I think the white looks better in monotone but I would have to convince myself to get another white car... Anyway... story of the accident....The great thing is nobody got seriously hurt... First ever accident at the age of 26... I was coming down a fairly empty four lane (two on each side) street that had a lot of lights that were mostly green. One very few streets in my area without left turn lanes. Anyway... A car stopped at a green to make a left.. car behind it stopped... I was changing radio stations (DAMN YOU Britney Spears... actually I don't remember what was on but maybe we can make the inquirer)... I looked up slamed on my breaks... my bumper slid under thiers... my front end caved in... they got a little bit of white paint on there bumper... Since it was low speed... I'm fine sinc my 15 yearold car was air bagless... might have got hurt if my car had airbags. The lady I hit was fine but had an eight month old in a car seat that she wanted checked out so they were transported to the hospital... I'm very glad because I would do the same...Insurance company says they say there fine... I'm going to miss my old car, it only had 117,326 miles, was paid for, and was afterall a BMW... strange thing is that the insurance company gave me more then what I probably could have sold it for and only $2800 less than what I bought it for 5 years and 60,000 miles ago...Anyway... thanks for the tip on the other cars... So far I've crossed off the RAV 4 and CRV from my list (forgot to mention)... I also forgot that I'm suppose to test drive a Protege5 and maybe a used Focus ZX3 (Low cost option - KBB is around $8,000 for a '00) But I'm going to get something I like as I'm most likely going to go $40M to $80M (Check out the tuition at any top 15 school) in debt anyway in the next three years getting my MBA... So I figure I need to grab something fun... that I like... my friends like... that the ladies won't mind once they sit down (I think the Jetta and RSX are ahead here as it looks nicer pulling up to the curve), that can haul most of my toys around, and that drives good.Just for fun... in comparison to my old beemer... the Vibe/Matrix handle just as well but the BMW beats them on power hands down... but its a much more spacious vehicle....Anyway... lots to consider... maybe I'll get one under the tree tommorrow... I've been good this year....Merry ChristmasGreg
Get the base Vibe, whatever color you like. But wait until the dealer can install the supercharger (early next year). You'll never miss your BMW then. I was going to be happy if the supercharger would boost HP and torque up to the Vibe GT numbers, but my dealer and a few other sources claim it might get the engine into 220hp/180 torque even in low RPM ranges. I'm already salivating at the thought. A quick highway drive today told me my Base vibe could "almost" push me into the seat on excelleration. But I don't want an "almost" feeling. The supercharger is first on my list as an add-on for my Vibe.KSNeptune,
I have heard that a lot of the DamilerChrysler cars are having issues. Don't know a single person who likes their Jeep, Dodge, or Chrysler car. Go figure. Don't get a Ford Focus. Got very poor reliability ratings in the magazines, and I heard a rumor somewhere they're about to recall them for some safety issue. Ford seems to be having many issues getting things right...they seem to always be recalling shtuff.
YES!I still visit GenVibe periodically. I have not forgotten about my "original" family over here!
