I've noticed in the wife's Vibe that her stay on no matter what, but on my Vibe the daylights can be turned off if the parking brake is inguaged. What year is your Vibe?

dumb question but is your headlamp switch turned on by any chance? I turn my lights on now and then and of course if I shut the car off with them on, they remain on. Usually indicated also by the green "your headlights are on" indicator on the dash.

i think it has something to do with the transmission. the manuals don't have the parking brake feature.

So, you have the engine running and switch the ignition from the on position back to accessory and they stay on? Do you also see all of the lights turn themselves back on if it is dark enough to switch on all of the lights?I discovered a quirk with the DRL and automatic light control on my car a long time ago... Basically here is what it does:[1] Car is running, parking brake off.[2] Ignition is switched to either off or acc.[3] If the ignition is switched back to the on position within 1 second or so but the engine is not started, the lights will come back on... If it is light out, only the DRL's will come back on. If it is dark out, all of the lights will switch back on. Cycling the ignition off and on quickly will continue to cycle the lights as well. I take it that the DRL module should sense whether the alternator is putting out any voltage, and if it is, it will know to turn the lights on. But despite the engine not running and therefore a lack of alternator input into the module, it decides to turn the lights back on anyway - perhaps that is a "fail safe" feature that will make sure the lights stay on if the alternator suddenly dies... The only way to get it out of that cycle is to leave the ignition in the off or acc position for probably 2-3 seconds before turning it back to the on position. I'm interested to see if anybody notices the same thing, so if you're bored, try the above steps and report back. If you are switching the ignition back to on (i.e. gauges and stuff will come on) that could be this quirk rearing its ugly head. I guess they didn't take into account people like me who would actually turn the ignition right back on but not starting the engine after I park the car. I mainly do this when I want to listen to the radio or whatever and need to leave the door open so I don't have to hear that horrid beeping... But if you take the ignition from the on position back to accessory without returning the ignition to on, you definitely have something up. The DRL's or the automatic headlights should NOT come on when the key is in the acc position. Could be the DRL module taking a dump... If you're not under warranty, I would suggest just buying the module and replacing it yourself, I think it was only around $50 at GM Parts Direct. If it is the module, you will be killing two birds with one stone - hopefully correcting this issue plus getting the new and improved DRL module that controls the automatic headlights better and eliminates that 15 second delay before they switch on.

Once you turn the car on, and release the brake (on the manual tranny) the DRLs will stay on until you shut off the car COMPLETELY. Did it in mine until I bypassed the DRLs.Just the way it's designed...I didn't particularly like it..

How do I turn off the Daytime Running Lamps when necessary? To idle your vehicle with the DRL off, set the parking brake while the ignition is in OFF. Then, start your vehicle. The DRL will stay off until you shift out of PARK (P) and release the parking brake.
