215/55/16 or 215/60/16I'm wondering if these sizes will be alright for 16" stock alloy rims.I don't have abs and the speedo being off doesn't worry me. I just want to be sure that they are okay for the rim. I'd like to see more meat in the wheel wells.I'd seen that "djb383" put 225/50/16's on his. There's not much info on tire sizes for stock wheels.Too poor for the good stuff.Been a visitor for a year but first question, Thanks,Lee
215/60/16 is 4.9% too big and not recommended. 215/55/16 is 1.74% bigger, 215/50/16 is 1.65% smaller and 225/50/16 is .09% smaller. I had 225/50/16 on my '04 Vibe and they looked and handled great. That's the size I would recommend. 225 is the maximum size you can use on the stock rim.
Here's a site that may help you http://www.tirerack.com/. You might also look at http://www.discounttire.com/dtcs/home.do. I did my research on the Tire Rack site, then went to my local Discount Tire for the purchase. On the Tire Rack site you can select a tire and view the specs for the tire which include the acceptable rim width range for the tire width. The 225/50/16 tire that I selected said the rim width range was 6" to 8". The stock 16" alloy is 6.5" wide which is within the acceptable rim width range for a 225 tire. As Sunny indicated the 225/50 is almost identical in height to the factory original 205/55 tire, but it is 3/4" wider. The height or diameter of the tire is the key factor. A taller tire is harder for the engine to turn and a shorter tire gives more engine revs which wastes gas. There are a bunch of cool members here that know a lot about the Vibe and other things - ask away, that's what I do!
