Temp Gauge Light (aftermarket)

Post by djb383 »

I recently installed a Stewart Warner electric coolant temp gauge. The gauge works great but I have not hooked up the gauge light for night time illumination. With regard to the automatic head light/DRL system, would anyone know which wire would be hot when the headlights are on? I just need the gauge light on at night, not during the day. Thanks.

Your best bet is to hit the illumination wire behind the radio. Kind of roundabout, but IMHO easier then tracking it down elsewhere...

Like raging suggested, you can tap into the radio or anything else on the same circuit for the dash lights. I have some LED's attached to the wire for the illumination on the rear defrost switch. That will be easy to get to and doesn't involve yanking the radio, the worst part will be getting the wire ran over to that location. Look for the green wire, which i believe is used on most things on the illumination circuit. Splice into there (or just stick the wire through the back side of the connector on the green wire's terminal on the connector if you're lazy like me ) and you're good to go, the gauge will dim with the rest.
