is a base vibe 5 speed faster than an a matrix auto xrs witht he 180hp?????? am i smoking some thing???(quarter mile/ o-60 time?)

No. A 5 speed is in the range of low 8 sec 0 to 60 times. The Vibe GT or XRS will do 0 to 60 in 7.2 seconds.

actually if it's the automatic XRS, that will do 0-60 in slower than 9 seconds, so a 5-speed base model vibe or matrix will beat it in most acceleration tests. it would be closer on highway runs with edge to the XRS, and XRS should have higher top speed.

I would think a good driver with the base five speed could beat an auto XRS.

That is one of the reasons Pontiac gave for not offering a GT w/Automatic. Not sure for higher speeds/longer distances, but they said base w/5-speed is quicker 0-30mph the a Gt w/auto.
