I am new here. Question for the wrenches out there. On these 130 hp.DOHC engines... I was told do not have any type of hydraulic lifters. So my question. If you have to adjust valve clearances... change the shims on one of these. DO YOU have to PULL the CAMS?aka shim under bucket design?...hope not. I have wrenched many cycles with this design...I hate pulling cams. I would think Toyota would not go that route and keep the shims on top of the buckets which are easy to adjust. Plus I see there is a timing chain rather than a timing belt in these engines. The GT/Yamaha engine may be different for clearances, since it revs higher. thanks in advance...Jay

I see that the cams on the 1zz have to be removed. Good thing the timing marks a simple. But there are no pics of the "chain tensioner". WHICH HAS TO BE REMOVED before the cams come out. Wonder where that's hiding? Hope someone can shed light on where the tensioner is? Usually it is low down on the cylinder block. Guess if I do it myself, I best make sure the dealer has a stock of shims. But I see these are a one piece shim bucket. Meaning as long as the clearances don't get tight. There is little to worry about.
