Tein - Rear Coil Install Problem!

Post by ZubenElGenubi »

I'm installing my Tein H-Tech springs. Got the fronts done, now having a problem with the rear. When the new spring was re-installed on the shock, the top part of the assembly tilts forward dramatically (see picture). This is the only way it seats. The assembly is oriented in relation to the base of the shock as before (i.e., no rotation). Is this correct??? Maybe when the weight of the car presses down it will straighten out, but it's going to be a real nightmare getting the shock back on the bolt to the rear suspension.

The rear struts are specific in how they are to be put back together as there is a bit of normal curve to them but must be going in the right direction. Sorry I can't be much more help then that...

Are you sure that is the right spring? Looks like a front spring to me...

you need to rotate the top of the assembly so it sits verticle without the tilt in it. that is definitley the wrong way.

I didn't notice this "camber" (for lack of a better word) with the original coil/shock. I'm having a local repair shop compress/swap the springs, even though I have a set of spring compressors. I used one of the compressors to "shore up" one side of the spring to help me get it back in place. Installation was relatively easy. I am still doing the other spring...will report back when it's done.It could just be a peculiarity of the H-tech springs themselves. We noted that the springs have an extra 90 degrees of coil than the originals.

Well, the left rear installed okay, but is now squeaking on rough roads (squeaks on upthrust towards body -or- if body is pushed down).I just got into San Antonio with this condition. After unloading the Vibe, I tore apart the interior to check the top mounting bolts in case I didn't tighten one. They seem ok. Maybe Gunn (the dealer hosting the rally) can take a quick peek.Pictures in another thread...
