We had a discussion a while back about having a member of the month, kinda a way to recognize people here that go out of their way to be helpful, or someone who really helps the GenVibe community. I can't find that thread anymore, so I am starting this one in it's place. I have a few people that I'd love to give kudos to!Plus, someday I might even get it....because I'll never get VOTM, I just can't bring myself to mod the way these guys do!

MOTM was http://forums.genvibe.com/zerothread?id=15320 but for some reason it is no longer here. Perhaps it was lost in the server maintenance period a week or so ago, or perhaps it was deleted. Guess we'll be able to infer which based on how long this thread stays around
I think it was dropped due to lack of interest. Not enough people got behind it, and you'd have to have at least 2 of the mods be in charge of it so it doesn't get left in the dust. I found it interesting, but I'm not in a postion to make it happen, so I'll drop it again.....

I think it's a good idea, but only if it is a random selection from a list of nominees and each person nominated only gets one chance, even if nominated multiple times. The point of it was to highlight helpful members, not to have some sort of popularity contest.

Quote, originally posted by joatmon »1. You can't change these rules2. The winner will be selected at random from those that have been nominated. If I don't like you, that will have no affect on your odds of winning. It's not about me.3. Vote early, vote often, but it won't help your candidate. Each person who gets voted for will have one entry in the random winner selection, so in the drawing, a member who has one vote gets one chance, a member who got 42 votes gets one chance. So there's no reason to vote for yourself a hundred times, that would just be sad.4. The purpose of MOTM is say "good job" to someone on the forum, and it is not a popularity contest, and it may or may not have anything to do with their car. It doesn't matter. It is about the person, perhaps someone helpful, or resourceful, or friendly, or steadfast, or whatever reason you want. The only criteria is that you have some reason to vote for a person. Whatever reason that may be, it doesn't matter. This is almost a non-rule.5. Anyone protesting the selection of the winner will be permanently prohibited from ever getting a chance to win, and will be publicly spurned in the forum. Mercilessly. Until the mods make me stop.6. There are no prizes, no cash awards, no material benefit to winning. This contest is not available where proibited by law. 7. The vote form has a spot for the members name, and a spot for why you think that person should be MOTM. If I can not trace back the name of the person you are voting for to a real genvibe username, then it gets thrown away If you don't bother to explain why you think that member should be MOTM, it gets thrown away. Really, what's the point of going to the trouble to fill out the form if you're not going to include a readable name and reason? If there is a specific post or thread that makes you appreciate a particular member, refer to it , include the link in the reason.8. Winner will be selected at random using a super secret random technique involving a high degree of randomness, which is both secret and random, and is a technique.9. The winner will be announced along with the text of the various reasons given in the ballots, or at least as much as can be reposted here and still stay within the forum content rules. 10. If you want the winner to know that you provided a specific vote/reason, then put your username in the reason, otherwise votes are anonymous.11. Genvibe members who have been banned, and genvibe members involved in the winner selection are prohibited from winning. This means me, and the bad guys. So don't bother voting for any of us. If too many people people vote for prohibited members, then I'll have to put in some sort of trap to filter those out, so spare me the trouble.12. Votes reset on the first of the month, arbitrarily at 00:00 EST/EDT13. Really, there are a lot of helpful members here, so for now I am thinking that the winning member is disqualified from winning again. ever. Might change that depending on the number of votes and the quality of all of you posting on the forum, but that's the starting rule. If a previous winner continues to get new votes after winning, I may, at my discretion, edit their victory announcement to append the new praise.14. Once the winner is announced I may, if I choose, forward non-winning nomination entries to the person who was nominated. I mean, after all, the whole purpose is to give a to someone on the forums, so if someone gets lots of praise, they ought to know about it even if they didn't win in the super secret random selection process.15. This new rule for the kiddies: Frivolous and/or hostile submissions will be thrown away at my discretion. Grow up.

I agree, it was a great idea Kari had, and I'm glad someone decided to run with it. I only wish to nominate one person a month, but I have several I would love to see get this.

It doesn't stand out because there is no icon on the thread title like the ones with the red exclaimation point. The red icons really stand out. Also, the thread title should note that this is now a nomination thread and not just questioning the possibility.

Yup, much better. I hadn't been paying much attention to this thread the last couple days, but I saw it right away after the heading got changed. Thanks Millster dude!!
well, somebody voted, but broke rule 7. they gave a good genvibe member username, but completely failed to provide any reason why that person should be MOTM. Rule 7 specifically states that that a member name and a reason must be given. If you're gonna say somebody should be MOTM, then you have to say why. Obviously you feel that person is MOTM worthy, you have to say why. So, whoever voted 15 minutes ago, sorry, your vote is invalid Let's recap:Quote »7. The vote form has a spot for the members name, and a spot for why you think that person should be MOTM. The idea behind MOTM is that there are a lot of helpful, friendly, people who contribute to the site, in a wide variety of ways. If someone thinks that the contribution of a particular member shoudl be recognized, then they should nominate that member for MOTM, and say why. We have VOTM for members who have the "best" Vibes. MOTM is for the person, not the car. It's not a popularity contest, the number of votes doesn't matter, but each month one member will be highlighted for their contribution to the site and the genvibe community.Quote, originally posted by MiVibe-ToolGuy »Is there a list of the members nominated?Yes, there is a list, and I will post it on 11/1, in a winner announcement thread. Since number of votes doesn't affect odds, if somebody sees that their choice has already been nominated, then they might not bother to nominate that person. Right now the only way to know that a member has been nominated is to nominate them yourself. For what it's worth, looking in my server logs, valid votes have come from only ten unique IP addresses. I have my own opinion on what that statistic represents, but in keeping with thread 19571 I'll not comment.

I didn't see anything in the rules about that, and since it's a "random" drawing, it seems it would be appropriate to nominate anyone who has been an outstanding contributor.

The trade off is if you have one favorite person, then the fewer people that are nominated, the better the odds are for the one that you nominate. If you nominate multiple people, then they all get a chance, but perhaps a smaller chance. edit 10/27 to be clear about it all, I deliberately did not make a rule against one person nominating multiple people, that is not an issue in any way. I am a bit disappointed by the participation though, a low number of members have bothered to say that there is anyone here who's contributions to the site should be recognized.
