Lots of Problems and Need advice

Post by TheBri »

I have owned my 04 gt for just over a month now. I bought it new from the dealer with 465 KM on it at the time. The first time I took it back was not even 2 weeks after I picked it up and they had it for 2 days, mostly for what they had done to it them selfs. At that time I also had an oil change done to it and the service tech messed up my floor mat and over filled the oil. So I had to take it back again. there is a lot more to this story. My main concern is that after a few days of driving the car the motor has never run properly and the dealer says its running fine and thats its a performace motor and thats the way it runs. this started after around 1000 KM. rough idle and erratic ( bouncing) also hesitating acceleration and most of the time the motors ticking/ knocking. GM dealer says its fine. Also the rear door seals are already worn where they are replacing them. There is a lot more to this story I love the car but I am having the most hell time with it. Does anyone know any good dealer in the Toronto Canada area that knows these cars well enoffe to help me out.Thank you.

Welcome aboard, and oh, how I feel your pain. I've had some ticking/knocking with my engine for quite some time as well. If you're interested, go to this page of my thread where I have posted sound clips of the knocking my engine is making... I also have some complaints about the idle quality of the 1ZZ engine, but from what I've noticed from numerous other Vibes, the general consensus is that they just aren't that smooth of an engine at idle. Sometimes they are smooth as silk, sometimes the engine shakes the entire car. It's rather bizarre. edit never mind, i see that you have a gt, so don't bother to read the above. I've had more problems than many with mine, so I know where you're coming from. Only thing I can suggest is to hang in there... It's frustrating as hell though.

Wow, surprised that you found an 04 still on the lot. I just bought my 05 a couple of weeks ago and there weren't many of those left. I was worried about buying a new car with mileage on it as you did. I lucked out and found one that had 24 kms on it. You just don't know how they were driven. Usually test pilots are hard on a vehicle and that's usually not good during break-in period. Are you using Premium gas in your GT ? It calls for it so maybe the engine would knock if you're using regular gas.Definitly call that GM line and complain if you are not getting good service. A brand new car should run like one. If it doesn't, they need to fix it and not give you the run around. A guy at work has had problems with his Mazda van and has been to the dealer over 10 times for the same issue. That's unacceptable in my opinion.

Your idle situation sounds normal to me for a 2zz engine. He's right about it being a performance engine. There are only 2 other 4cyl engines that I know of that are in the same league as far as technology. 4 cyl engines are naturally bumpy at idle. It should be idling at around 900rpm. The hesitation on upon pulling away is a byproduct of having a low-torque engine in a somewhat heavy car. You'll just have to get used to working the sensitive clutch and gas in these cars to get the best launch. The ticking is normal too. I've worked with many 2zz engines and they all have some sort of ticking. It's most likely one of the numerous vacuum switching valves. So get them to replace your mats, fill your oil correctly, and treat it nice until you break it in. Then you can see what it feels like to floor it past 6500rpm .

Thank you all for the great advice. I have call the GM line before I became a member and they kinda give me the run around there to. The floor mat got fixed and they gave me the rubber ones for free. But they over filled my oil once again. lol. Is any one have worn out rear door seals? Mine wore out from they rubbing on the little rear window plastic piece? I have been running ultra 94 gas for 90% of the time I have had it, But nothing less than 91 on the other times. I have such bad gas mileage too. I am lucky to get 425 km to a tank and most of my driving is Hwy. there was one time I went 200 km and it burned 26 liters of gas. For the break in peiod I think I am past that I have 10 000 km on it since I got it at the end of july. But for my job I am a feild service tech and we us our own cars for it. Thats why i bought this car thinking it got good gas mileage and the versitalty it has to, but also its a sweet looking car with lots of function with it.Does anyone know where to find the hidden warranty issues? or the silent call backs? How bad is it for the oil to be over filled in the motor because from my understanding about car witch is realy good, that its not a good thing at all and it does damage to the engine or potencial damage?Thank you once agian for all the replies. This group of Vibe owners are awsome at helping everone out. If there are meet happening around Ontario or Michegen let me know. I travel alot and I would love to come out for meets.

Also once I had my rev. limiter hit at 6300 RPM. Anyone Have this happen to them before where the rev. limiter hits out at a wired RPM? This happened to me one night a bunch of times, not just once and stopped, about 6 times.
