I want a Pursuit dangit!

Post by ColonelPanic »

Am I the only one south of the border who likes the Pursuit over the Cobalt? I like the overall shape of the Cobalt coupe, but that back end, ugh... I don't particularly care for the tail lights mainly. Looks like they've resolved that on the Pursuit coupe. How the heck can I get one down here? I guess I could buy a Cobalt and try to implement 'Project Pursuit' eh?

I agree. The coupe is nicer then the sedan by far. Then again, the cobalt coupe is nicer then the sedan too. But the pursuit coupe beats the cobalt hands down.

I don't know (removed) GM was thinking by making the Vibe their "lowest priced" car (excluding the Sunfire that they're just letting die a painful, lengthy death.) They desparately need this car in the states.I've always been a Chevy guy but I would actually rather buy another Pontiac over a Chevy if I buy GM again, which I'd really like to do, the more I think about it. Too bad that won't be possible unless I go to Canada or come up with a (removed) load of money somehow.

A G6 I4 sedan MSRP's at 17,990 before incentives. With some negotiating, I bet you could get a nicely equipped sedan out the door for less then 17.

Hmm... That cheap? Not bad! I may have to look into that! They had a couple used GT's for $19 with 14K on 'em. Loaded up nicely, everything except leather and the roof... Not sure how I could do for financing on a used car, being so damn upside down with the current ride though. I need to do something though... I just can't take it anymore.

You might try to sell it privately and get something more than 'trade-in' value.

I enjoy hijacking my own threads. It's much fun. There's no way that I'll be able to get the full $14K that I owe for this car (well actually it's mid to upper $13's but still, at close to 60,000 miles) even if I sold it privately... What would I do in a situation where I was only able to get $12 or whatever for the thing? What to do with the extra money that I would owe on the car? Could I possibly finance that on a separate loan, or am I expected to pay the bank the full amount? (i doubt they'd be too keen on me sayin' here mr. money man, have your $12K for that turd, I'll get the rest to you later!) I don't have enough in savings to put up to pay that off. I've always wondered that...Hence the reason I think I have to trade, so I can plop the extra owed onto the top of yet another loan. Blah, I need brakes on the car and I can't even afford that right now, why the hell am I even thinking of trading? arrgh!

Northvibe, yep, there isn't much difference. I just prefer the "Pontiac-ness" of the Pursuit a bit better, even though it's the same damn car. The tail lights on the coupe and the fron end are the biggest differences really...

Quote, originally posted by northvibe »too bad theres no GTP/GXP version thats SC like the SS cobalt. My biggest gripe with GM.They label Pontiac as a damaged brand. One of the things that could easily save it is the GXP program. Pontiac has always been known for performance. The GXP line is a showcase of pontiac performance. But GM seriously dropped the ball on the GXP program. Bonneville GXP was released. Shortly thereafter, they dropped the Bonneville altogether. Now the GP GXP is out. But they massacred it's appearance, and now it's sales are lukewarm, at best. Vibe GXP, Sunfire GXP, Grand Am GXP, all never happened. Two of those models are now extinct. Pontiac's site even dropped the GXP line from it's concept page. All that remains is the autocross line, of which no one really knows much about, and frankly, was not nearly as attractive as the GXP.I love GM and all...but my god, how stupid could they be sometimes. Someone get Wagoner OUT OF THERE!

I can't stand the cobalt. They replaced an affordable econo-car with a more expensive car in the same catagory. The pursuit does look better though. I am just dissapointed with the boring front ends.

Well, CP, I think we all need to roadtrip to Canada (not in your car) and get a Pursuit--I think it would be kind of cool to have a car that you don't see down here in the States! Have we ever done a Meet On The Road? If we drive Sir Knocksalot into Lake Superior on the way up, how much insurance would you get?

ragingfish i do agree, gtp/gxp where so kick (removed) back in the late 90s early 2k. those would be the only cars i would buy from pontiac, when i was dreaming of having a lot of money . the only cars i can see selling are the gto and the vibe. they in my eyes are a performance division but WHERE IS it? there should be a performace vibe or atleast have the gt come with a ram air hood dang it, thats what they were known for!

I'm a fan of the Pursuit (sunfire replacement) over the Colbalt any day. Just looks nicer. However I have yet to see a 2 door Pursuit. Of course now that I'm in the states... its very unlikely now.

Pontiac here does quite good.. EXCEPT, I don't have figures, but I really don't see that the Vibe is doing so well. Luckily for the Vibe, I guess other areas are selling enough to keep the thing alive. The dealer I go to quit stocking them all together, might as well make room for a Chevy, Buick, or some other Pontiac model that the locals will actually WANT to buy. Can't say that I blame 'em one bit for that decision - no sense in wasting space.... heh

GM doesn't like cool cars. Their cars have so much potential, but they always look like they went to the vet and got sedated, shaven, and then neutered.A stock ram air vibe would be pretty cool though. Heck, bring on the GT-R.

This one's for you, Panic... Quote »Dateline: Detroit - Generous Motors, a tiny little division of Toyota, today announced the counterrevolutionary new 2006 Pursuit Dangit. Designed by retired guys with pocket protectors and slide-rules, styled by accident, assembled by trained mice and untrained robots, the Dangit is powered by an inefficient, unremarkable, unreliable, unrevolutionary old Toyoklahoma 1zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz (Oh! Sorry, I dozed off for a moment there) non-hybrid gas-guzzling pencil sharpener. The Dangit will astound, confound, and enrich the vocabulary of every 'real' GM service tech who encounters it during the life of the vehicle (estimated to be at least 36 months less than the finance contract). New this year, every Dangit features NoStar(TM) and ABL(TM) (Anti-Brake Locks). NoStar(TM) is a low-budget version of OnStar(TM) without cutesy radio commercials. NoStar(TM) won't unlock doors or help police track it if it's stolen (fat chance) but it WILL notify your next of kin each time the vehicle approaches a steep hill.ABL(TM) (anti-brake locks) (pronounced A-BULL) fling the doors open each time the driver applies the brakes. The car will be marketed only in the greater Louavul KY area, and only to unsuspecting Hoosiers who are upside down on their current GM car loans.

(removed), I almost spit my coffee when I read that Colonel, lets not forget General Migrane has a history (over the last ten years at least) of making ignorant choices in vehicle offerings within the U.S. proper. Remember, these are the guys who refused to update the f-body cars (which I still love, almost bought a 2000 t/a when I bought my GTP) and instead killed them. Yeah, I really wanted to buy a fancy beretta they dared hang the name Monte Carlo SS on instead of a hot redesigned Firebird or camaro, thanks G.M.! I guess they did'nt get it when Furd redesigned the mustang in the 90's to make it sportier and still had a back seat that an adult could sit in for more than 5 minutes at a time (can you say f-body torture chamber?).Think AZTEK!!! Quadruple ugly, horrible reliability, pathetic crash test ratings, handles like a drunken bull on roller skates, and usually generates a chuckle when people actually admit they like them. G.M. used focus groups (key word there is focus, which those same people probably bought when furd stopped selling the (removed)-pire) to tell them if it would sell. Boy, that worked out for them did'nt it? Why is it G.M. can bring the monaro here from down under, rebadge it, over price it, and slap a legendary name in the face? How come they can do that, but yet (much to the colonel's dismay) they did not have the foresite to give us the pursuit? Simple, they just don't get it! Don't get me wrong, I would LOVE to own an '05 GTO, but they just did not do the car justice by making the '04 look like a cavalier on steroids. The pursuit would be the best (and most cost effective) fix for them to boot the way outdated sunfire out the door. Back when they had the Cavalier Z24 with the H.O. v6 I considered buying one but wondered why there was no comparable offering on the sunfire (styling and performance wise). I am not saying they need to carry all of their offerings from canada down here, especially given the awful rebadge vehicles they had in canada (i.e. the corsica turned tempest and the Geo metro turned firefly) but this makes too much sense. Why not offer a quad coupe like the saturn ion in the pontiac line? They had the idea, but scrapped it after introducing it at the north american international auto show in 2001.Here is more on this car:http://www.ultimatecarpage.com...m=414Here is another story on the pursuit that hopefully will give panic something to calm his angst (take a deep breath colonel).http://www.autoblog.com/entry/1234000457051170/The really bad thing on this is I considered road tripping to the great white north to buy one of these, until i found out they use a completely different VIN system there and read on the internet how difficult of a task it would be.
