Modified OEM intake horn

Post by binary »

I was doing some investigating around the setup of the OEM intake for the airbox that snakes around the battery and then ends up going 180 degrees back behind the headlight. After taking it apart, I took off the plastic 90 degree horn and routed the mesh pipe down in where most CIA's fit into. The hose doesn't kink and will give fresher air to the air box.Downside - there's still a restrictive part on the hard plastic tube that feeds the air box. Haven't driven it long enough for results, sound is a bit different though.A CIA is still in the works, this was just "tinkerin' " Photos later.

I hit 36.7MPG on my 100% highway trip this weekend. Temps averaged about 75-80 degrees F. I also tested this in a car wash with underbody flush - I had about 3 drops of water in the air box after. The filter was dry.I'm charging my digicam tonight - picts shortly.

when I re-installed my air box back in the string, I forgot to install that "snake" tube. I didn't drive it that way but noted it sounded a little louder... not much, on accelloration over 3000rpm. but thats just me and my ears.

I modified mine over the weekend. I took the whole tube assembly off the from air box(the part that snakes around the battery, etc.). I then cut the flexible tube away from both plastic ends (it's kinda hard to cut as it has wire in it). The flexible tube then tightly slides right into the air box (I think it gets fliped around, as to angle it correctly), and the other end goes right to where the hole is in the inner fender. No kinks or restrictions. When running a drop in K&N I'd wager to be it's as good as any after market intake. Waiting to see if my milage is effected.

All highway, 70MPH cruise, 3 people in the car plus gear. I'm not saying the tweak had anything to do with it - my car has been getting steadily better milage... probably break-in or something. The weather has been getting cooler so that helps.Photos sooN!

Found out that the higher MPG was due to the wife topping off my tank before our last weekend trip... GRRRRRR. Screwed up my whole milage database.I'm averging about 34-36 on highway though
