Free Opera!

Post by ColonelPanic »

For those of you who haven't tried any alternative browsers, Opera is celebrating its 10th birthday... They are giving away free registration codes today only.http://my.opera.com/community/party/Opera is commercial software (but very, very worth every penny of it) and normally runs $39 for registration. This has been my longtime favorite browser since I discovered it in the late 90's. It's small (the install file for windoze is less than 4MB,) fast, very lightweight, highly customizable, and sticks to the standards like glue. Plus, no spyware and cheesy exploits that plague M$ Internet Exploiter. No time better than the present to try it out.

Hey, thanks for the info CP. It seem like a nice program, but I'm staying with Firefox.

That's what I'm sayin'. Firefox is ok though, I'm all about any browser that's not Internet Exploiter. As long as you're not using that wretched thing, you're fine in my book.

I am going to install this on my home computer, I used to have it and loved it. It can't install it on my laptop for use at work because we have a seemingly 500 year old ISA Firewall that Opera doesn't like and the proxy settings won't go through. Thanks for the link CP!!

I've been happy with Firefox for the past year or two. What does Opera offer that Firefox doesn't? The three main things I like about Firefox are:1. Tabbed browsing2. Gestures (certain mouse moves are commands, such as page forward/back)3. Pop up blocker (becoming standard on many browsers now)Does Opera have these features? Thanks.Edit: I just checked out the link above and it appears to have those features. Are there other reasons people like Opera over Firefox?

How does Opera compare to Mozilla? I have been using Mozilla now for a year or so and love it.

Opera doesn't offer any significant advantages over Firefox as far as speed and/or useability to me.That said, on the Mac, Opera is a wonderul thing. It's fast, stable, efficient and compatible. Firefox on the Mac is an exercise in great patience.
