The Cobalt SS does have the option for an automatic... That's with the 2.4 litre Ecotec w/ 171 HP. However, if you wanted the 205 HP supercharged version, you're stuck with a manual. I'm not sure how much it would end up costing you to slap a blower on the normally aspirated 2.4 version... Obviously, there is a reason GM isn't marketing a supercharged, automatic-equipped Cobalt SS, so I'd say proceed with caution. My dealer has a couple SS/autos in stock, those are damn nice. And luckily, they weren't equipped with that god awful riceboy spoiler. For the money, they're a good deal, I think. Certainly much better equipped than a Vibe would be for the same money.

storm, i know what you're saying.... if you want a sporty car, then look elsewhere. lolnot saying the cobalt ss or ion redline isn't "sporty" but they are NOT sportscars. and since tangerine likes to tune, then i suggest getting something with a great a/m availability.

Then you could mod that. A used 04 mazda 3 looks a lot better and they make a turbo kit for it that can gain some serious horses. It's all about the money though

just get a 2004+ mustang. Consumer reports rated them the best american sports car for reliability and the new 05's are very nice. I bet you could get a 04 pretty cheap.

One of the guys I work with, he can smoke any WRX STI (not modded of course) Legacy is good but WRX, more mods.

The Redlines/Cobalt SS's with the supercharged 2-liters all have 5-speeds; the SS Cobalts & Ion 2.4's all have autos . . . I saw the SS-not-supercharged at the dealer the other day, they look nice, IMHO, but not for me.As far as slapping a supercharger on it, it'd be easy (when I say "easy" I mean "not the most difficult thing ever"). All Ecotec parts are compatible - anything that'll work on the 2.0 in my car will work on the 2.2 and the 2.4. There was a guy who put the s/c on his 2.2L 2004 Cavalier with no trouble, the only question was the ECU. As far as the aftermarket on the Cobalt SS/Redlines, it's picking up, albiet slowly. GM is finally going to release the staged upgrades at SEMA for the supercharged cars, and I'm sure plenty of other parts will follow, aftermarket and otherwise. And for Hope, who said that the Cobalt SS & Ion Redline aren't sports cars . . . yeah . . . right. Have you ever driven one? They're as sporty as they come, trust me. I take people by surprise every day, and some days it even surprises me, like when I run to the end of 4th gear and find myself doing 125 mph before the shift to 5th. As well, the brakes & suspension are phenomenal too.

100k+ for a sportscar? Sooo what about the Viper, GTO, Corvette, and RSX? and (removed) lets not forget teh SRT-4! ( ) I guess they are just fast coupes too?

As well, the brakes & suspension are phenomenal too.sorry, it's not a sports car. a sporty car yes, but no sports car. and yes, i can get up to 125 mph pretty quick too, especially when i'm following sti's and stage 3/4 wrx turbo's down to girdwood. i don't claim that my LGT is a sports car either. it's a fun fast sports sedan, but still no sports car. unless your car comes with a stock 300+ hp/tq engine, then it's just sporty and fun. that's like saying a miata is a sports car because it is "zippy".
you know what? whatever floats your boat. if you want to call your car a sports car, go right on ahead. you got yourself a sportscar. if you want to call it a wagon, sedan, suv, cuv, or otherwise, that's your right. who really gives a crap afterall, unless it's truly THAT important for you to call it a sportscar. as william shakespear put it, "what's in a name?"
Thank you, I will! LOL!!! And for the record...S2000350ZRX8All sports cars that do not have loads of power or have a 4 or 6 Cyl engine. Not in a name but in definition. P.S. Sorry to get you defensive today...

he he. one of the guys let me go for a ride in his evo 8. he's done all kinds of crazy stuff to it. man is it fast! i'm still not a fan of the looks, but once you're in the car, it's not bad (expect all the plastic cheapy looking interior). 150 mph down the street in about 6 seconds! i'm serious! it was FASSSST!
