My Vibe hit also

Post by ArcsVibe »

Well after working a 10 hour day at the office I walk upon this friggin surprise!A friggin idiot truck driver couldn't make a turn and backed up into my Vibe Off to the estimator tomorrow morning. Got my police report and my insurance company told me I pay 0$ (at least) so that is the only break.

Yikes! Hate to see that. At least it's not as bad as it could be...What's really sad though, it may not have had so much damage if they would have made these mirrors hinged.

That sucks, Sam! Did it hurt any of the rest of the car or just the mirror? From the pics it looks like it was only the mirror that took the hit. If so that's good. Either way, I hope you get it back up and running soon!

So far the mirror and parts of the door where the assembly hit. Funny thing now that the passenager side window now makes a strange "popping" sound when you roll it down.....I am curious to see how much the estimate will be.

I knocked off the driver's side mirror on my '03 Vibe. It looked exactly the way yours looks. New mirror assembly and dealer installation cost me $162.00. Let us know what you pay.

On a good note got my car repaired today. Total cost with taxes is 216.32$ billed to my insurance. Now the fun part starts as the police and the insurance company are paying a visit to the company who's truck was spotted doing the damage. Will let you know once I hear anything. My Vibe is whole again

Quote, originally posted by ArcsVibe »Total cost with taxes is 216.32$ billed to my insurance.Looks like they charged your insurance company more than my dealer charged me ($162).The way I broke mine was my being so stupid that nobody (until right here) knows what happened. I was backing my car around the end of my house to get to the backyard. Looking out the back window, I'd completely forgotten about a tree that was on the side. As I slowly backed up, I start hearing this cracking noise right next to me. I immediately applied the brakes. That tree had somehow jumped right over beside my car and taken off the mirror. I was pissed at my stupidity! At the same time though, I realized it could have been lots worse. Now why, you might (or not) ask, was I backing my Vibe into the backyard? To kill a mole. Most of you are too young to care about this sort of thing, but some of you will one day be faced with the same problem. For years I've been wrapping a dryer vent around the exhaust and sticking it into the underground places where moles run around. Let the car run for awhile and any moles in there are soon history. There is now a gadjet you can buy in some hardware stores that are ready-made for this.

At least a lady left me a note but did not sign it, on the note she wrote a partial license plate number and the name of the company on the truck. I have called the local newspaper and have asked them to run an article or an add that thanks them for this kind act. Another witness came up to me yesterday and told me he saw the truck hit my car and take off, so now I have a witness I can locate and one that I am trying to. Glad to see that there are still some decent people on this earth!

Doh! Sorry to hear about this! That is one thing I do not like on the Vibe, it does not have Breakaway Mirrors! On the brighter side, take this opportunity to paint the mirrors blue now!

Quote, originally posted by desert_dweller »Wasn't this a scene in Caddyshack? Damned if I know. I've been doing this for 45 or so years, though, so if that movie had a scene about it, maybe they got the idea from me! Several years ago my girlfriend had what seemed like zillions of huge yellow-jackets living under her garage floor. I stuck that dryer vent in that hole, ran my old S-10 Blazer for awhile, and that was the end of that problem. Looking back, I should have patented this idea, because I recently saw a local hardward store selling a gizmo for this. I bought one, too. One end of this gizmo hooks up to the exhaust, while the other hooks up to a garden hose. Bottom line is that it's easier. I still have to use a short length of dryer vent, though, to hook it up to my large Vibe exhaust. Don't waste money on traps or chemicals, because those are hit-and-miss. My way works every time. And here you thought us old foggies didn't know anything...
