Power drop over the years....

Post by Sub-Vibe-R »

I noticed that the HP on the Vibe decrease year after year.In 2003 the base was rated at 130hp. In 2006 it is now 126 (the base, not the AWD). The 2006 AWD is rated at 118hp!!!The GT is even worst... From 180hp in 2003, failed to 176 then 170 in 2006....Is it only because of the anti-pollution thing or they changed the way to calculate the HP???

A very good explanation courtesey of b18b in another thread:Quote, originally posted by b18b »Hold your horses guys. The engine output of the '06s are the same as the '05s. Whats changed is the method by which horsepower is measured given a new SAE standard J1349 (Rev 8/04). These new calculations reflect a number of changes in the way horsepower and torque are measured; so in terms of absolute power, the engine his really making the same power, only the definition has changed a little (Think of stating temperature in terms of celsius and farenheit)As far as I know, only 3 automakers have voluntarily adapted the new system when rating their new cars; Honda, Toyota and GM.

Completely supports my theory that 03 GT's and XRS's were originally OVERRATED over the newer years.http://forums.genvibe.com/zerothread?id=14835
